My wife and I have been listening to the new tunes for a few days now. Obsessing is a better word. While reading everybody's opinions on this here board. She says to me. "The best way to decide if you like the songs, or not, is to put "Blind Melon" out of your mind, and listen as if you were hearing a new band. That made tons of sense to me. Cause even though they're Blind Melon, they're much different. Aside from a different singer, The rest of the band has changed in the last decade as well, i'm sure. Think of where you were, in your life, 10 years ago. This "Blind Melon" is going to be a differnt entity, But yet still having most of the same components. That's it! I'm rambling again. Stayed at the bar too long.

I agree larsons. When I first heard the songs, for the first few hours, it felt strange to me, I loved them, but it felt strange and I was missing Shannon too much. Then I said to myself that I have to forget that this band is Blind Melon, forget about the old (not litteraly of course), just sit back and listen to the music. And then it started to feel great.
I still can't stop listening to them...

I did the same thing, after the initial "shock" of hearing new Blind Melon ceased a bit I really just listened to the music and its great stuff! You know its good when you can't stop singing it around the house and its stuck in your head.

Yeah,at first I was just so blown away by the thought that this all the remaining members playing together.I didn't fully appreciate the songs lyrically,or the mood of the song,It was so much to take in.After listening to them about 200X,I really enjoy it more in a way that hey! They are really doing it & are doing it really well.I agree about the 10 yrs. that have gone by too.But as you said,it still has the components.Oh & I agree there is just no getting parts of these songs out of my Head.

Maybe I'm just too hung up on the "old" Blind Melon, if such a thing is even possible... but I just feel like this is the smooth and logical progression from the past to the present. Yes, I miss Shannon (A LOT) but I'm not having the conflicts now that I was afraid would stick with me. I'm content-- my band is back. After these last couple of days, it's almost like they were never away. I feel like I've gone back in time! I don't want to be "blind" and oversimplify things, but for me, it's all just picked right up where it left off so long ago. I was afraid at first that I'd be resentful, as though someone were trying to replace Shannon, but I see now that that was groundless. The boys are back, rocking as hard as ever, and it feels the same to me as it did back then. I don't have any more trouble reconciling the old stuff with the new than I did between the first two albums-- because come on, there was a shift in feel there, too. This new music has that same subtle difference, but nothing I can't fit together. Yes, I am content.

One more thing-- This is a first for me, too. Every time in the past that a band has reformed with a change in its members, I've been disgusted. I wonder how they dare to call themselves the same band when obviously, they aren't the same! There's NONE of that this time. I don't know if it's just because of my loyalty to them, or of it's because Travis is such a good fit with the others, but I'm not having that problem at all. I'm so glad. I would have been crushed if something like that had gotten in the way of my melon love!

Now I can't wait for more.

travis fits so naturally into the music, it gives me shivers, it's like, weird man, shannons there somewhere, but travis is singing, but, travis is being travis not shannon, yet shannon somehow is still dripping through the cracks.
To put the new songs in perspective
I really want to have sex right now while these tunes are playing in the background.. Thats how good they are
