I know i'm in the minority on this but I see Axl's point, about the funeral. If he had gone, camera's and news crews might've swarmed the place, and turned it into a circus. That would've been disrepecrfull to both Shannon and his family. Remember Guns n' Roses we're the biggest band in the world for a few years. He was followed everywhere, they haven't released a record in a thousand years and he's still followed everywhere.

When and where did Axl actually say this??
If that was the case for him,it was a lose-lose situation..Turn the funeral into a circus or not show up at all..

He said that? No wonder everyone hates the guy, they really hate him on Nirvana forums eventhough Kurt asked for alot of the asshole comments Axl made about him a few times. Kurt also ripped on Pearl Jam quite a bit. "I don't hate Eddie, but my band has talent. His band sucks". Oh please.. Knowing how shitty of a guitar player Kurt was it makes me say oh please too!

It doesn't take a great guitar player to write great songs. And writing GREAT songs is something the Kurt Cobain was brilliant at.

This is off topic but....
A while back in some English guitar magazine they listed their 50 or 100 best guitarists in the world.
Kurt was nr. 16 or 17 and Slash didn`t even make it to the list...
Now that is just wrong!...

From reading articles related to Blind Melon, as well as being a huge GN'R fan. The more you read about Shannon, and Axel relationship you realize it is more professional than anything. I think it was more of a situation where being fellow Indiana's Axel was doing it in that regard, and as many of you know how Axel can be an asshole in regards to having ownership of the band name GN'R, and the rights to the music - it very well could be that Axel hates the music industry as much as I think he does, and in helping Blind Melon with the legal stuff he is accomplishing two things, not seeing his buddy fellow Indianan get screwed over, and sticking it to the business, (cause these music executives fall in the same category as lawyers).

Where can i read about their relationship??..I haven`t seen one article where their relationship is mentioned in other terms than Shannon appearing in a Gn`r video.. Some people say that Axl said in some interview in the late 90`s that he won`t play Don`t Cry because of Shannon`s death...I haven`t read this interview and the people that have read it don`t know where to find it anymore..If you know where to find any interview where either one is talking about the other please let me know.. I think Axl and Shannon`s relationship was both professional and personal.

this where you can read about axl and shannon box68.bluehost.com/~greenmid/blindmelonarticles.htmlthere's a part in one of the articles, i think the details one, where rogers is picking on shannon and says something to the effect of.....shannon you got famous by kissing axl's ass. and then shannon gets pissed. it's pretty funny. it says that axl did look after them because he didn't want his indiana friend to get screwed. as far as him not going to the funeral i don't think it's that big of a deal. i know people who didn't go to their close friends wake or funeral or a close family members. some people just don't like funerals. and if he did call his mom it shows he was thinking about him.

There are other songs from the Appetite and Illusion years that Gn`r don`t do anymore but Don`t Cry is different.Their new guitarist Ron Thal plays it all by himself at concerts now..Axl still won`t sing it. Shannon is the only reason,i`m sure.

I always thought of Drive as a shallower song than it is I guess I should give the lyrics in the albums more attention, this makes the song feel even better to hear!

Yeah,Drive was inspired by an addict that Shannon worked with,& he would give him a ride to where he needed to go,Right? It has taken on a few different meanings for me over the past 10 yrs. That's how alot of they're songs are written,as Shannon said, in an abstract, ambiguous way.

Just to set the record straight Drive is not about Axl Rose, but a guy none of you have ever heard of who used to get Shannon to drive him to buy heroin, as well as general pondering about the nature of addicts and addiction. Jet Rag was the used clothing store on Melrose where Christopher, and said guy, worked at that time and was often used as a rendezvous point for these excursions. We stole extensively from dozens of bands but this was by far the most blatant example so we had to acknowledge it vocally. Despite what you may have read, Shannon was barely acquainted with Axl. From time to time I will try to correct some of the inaccuracies on this forum. Glen Graham
