Does anyone have any idea why Glenn decided not to do the VH1 Behind the Music Special?

It surprises me...and at the same time I imagine it must be very impressive to meet someone like Shannon!

Do you think this statement is related to the reason why he didn't want to do the VH1? I don't don't think so, maybe they weren't closest friends in the band, but what Glen's talking about is the first time they met and the beginning...I hardly imagine how they could see each other almost every day for years if their relation would be bad? Especialy cause this band always seemed such a unity to me... But hey, you chat with other members sometimes, do you think the question's too personal to ask, you can always give it a try

It's hard getting the reason why Unified Theory broke up out of the guys. I think it would be 100x harder to ask about Shannon and Glenn's relationship.

Another thing I don't understand is the fact that Glenn said he hasn't seen the guys in the last 7 years.. Yet, he appeared on the 2001 Abandon Jalopy Release? He's a mystery to me.

I don't don't think so, maybe they weren't closest friends in the band, but what Glen's talking about is the first time they met and the beginning...I hardly imagine how they could see each other almost every day for years if their relation would be bad? Especialy cause this band always seemed such a unity to me... "I think it just becomes a matter of respecting the people that you create with," You don't have to be best friends. Tension is a very inspiring and very creative element in this band."
Shannon, 1995 From my point of view Glenn seems like a very private and personal person. If anyone else here has read this short biography it might be easier to see why he's seems so private:"The son of an attourney, Graham grew up in Columbus, Miss., in what he calls "the epitome of the American sitcom family." The durmmer's family was so normal, he says, that "anything abnormal, which was most everything on the outside world, just sort of freaked me out.
Like countless others, Graham was lured into rock & roll by Kiss; within a few years after seeing them on television, he'd acquired a makeshit drum kid (it was covered with linoleum, adn he had to prop the rack toms up with J.C. Penny catalogs) and begun playing Judas Priest and Deep Purple covers with older kids from high school. His fledgling music career, however, was marred by bouts with depression, and in the 10th grade, during a bus trip to Washington with his swim team, he suffered a nervous breakdown. He's still not sure what caused it, but he suspects he may have been dosed with acid by one of his classmates.
I hallucinated for weeks," he says. "Total landscape-change hallucinations. Needless to say, I don't remember much of the trip. When I got back, I hadn't eaten or had anything to drink all week, nor had I bathed. I don't even remember coming back. Next thing I knew, I was in a mental hospital.
The drummer remained hospitalized for 10 weeks. "Once I got out," he says, "I was fine. The psychiatrist said, 'Whatever you do, just don't take acid.' It was a long time before I did. And when I did, I thought, 'Oh, my God, this is what it was.' I think I was destined for a nervous breakdown, with or without a dose." So, based on this and what I know about him....it's my personal opinion that he's a very private person and didn't want to bring up old personal subjects.

Hello all, I have also often wondered about their relationship & why Glen did not appear in the Behind the Music episode. I didn't know if it was too hard for him or what. I do agree that he seems to be a pretty private person so I guess we may never know! But any & all info would be great.

I have asked myself the same thing, the reason for which he doesn't be present at the VH1 special, I have always thought that he was much more reserved of temperament respect the other members of the band. But I really don't know why he doesn't want to do that, mystery.

Yeah i'm glad this was brought up. There's a thread about this on the tones of home forum that i would have to go dig up about them hating each other, or it was mentioned in a thread. Nel Hoon left a response saying that none of it was true, they all liked each other. But i found this article a while ago.... Shannon: Obviously we're not all best friends; there's a lot of friction in this band but we've productively learned how to use it. We all have a common denominator as far as respect for each other. Shannon again: I like the solidarity. Some of us are not the best of friends and to have that solidarity in this type of situation, to me, means so much. Shannon: I'm so sick of seeing good bands go down the drain because the singer wants to alienate himself from the band. Sometimes I feel like some of these people should define what 'band' means. (i wonder if this is a crack at Axl) he mentions twice in one interview that they're not all best friends. there was obviously friction in the band. my opinion is that they didn't get along but made it work to make the music, then when shannon died i'll bet glenn was so mad at him for messing such a good thing up. of course i've never spoken a single word to any band member so my opinion means crap. here's the link to that interview by the way www.penduluminc.com/MM/articles/bmelon.html

I think we can all agree that any type of extremely creative person in any realm is just filled with energy! Probably more than they know what to do with, or where it is supposed to fit in a world that may not understand, because they are not experiencing it. It is no secret that many singers, artists, musicians songwritiers have suffered many bouts (collectively) with depression, anxiety, and really feeling their feelings. In a way, they are the ones to step up to the plate and feel those things... then give them back to us in the form of beautiful music and art to escape with. Like a skill they have learned to just "check out" with, and it is all set up for us to join them when we need them. I think many of us can recall a song, group or musician who has basiclly saved our life through song. (*wink*...anyone?) We all enjoy their creations, and by truely listening and appreciating, we thank them for "going through" their pain or joys and surviving it too. I think all of the discussion about Glenn and the band has evolved into a nice understanding and overall respect for each of their decisions. Yes, we all would have loved to see him in the VH1, and this leaves questions.... but gotta love 'em, for their own ways of handling things, right friends? ...and continue to thank them for simply being there while they were So glad someone brought this up
