I had heard about the original Soup reviews, many of them bad and closeminded. Well I decided to read a few and they frankly piss me off. With things such as "incoherent unintelligible lyrics", "moldy dabs of 60's guitar riffs", "out-of-range screeching vocals" etc... It amazes me how some people can say that about such a great albumn when if only they took the time I'm sure they'd get a lot out of it. I mean with all the greatness in Soup and any BM albumn for that matter, how is it not possible to get a message ouit of the songs? Sorry for the rant guys it just pisses me off to see such closeminded reviews.

I feel the same way, that's why I despise critics. This band was original at a time when a lot of crap was getting air play. Put on some Blind Melon around people and someone usually will ask whose this band and you've created another melonhead

Yea, but Blind Melon is a lot different than the huge money making bands of today and of their time. I have a review of Nico, and it wasn't good either. If you don't have the taste for it, then your review will show that.
There are great reviews out there. There are bad reviews out there. Same with every band.
Imagine... a great review of Morbid Angel? Well, they're out there.

Blind Melon, especially Soup, is hard to get into without having heard alot of their other stuff. Once you get into it, it's great. I sometimes find listening to it odd after not hearing them for ageas.

I love SOUP! It's all about taste, but I don't think BM is mainstream music and I am OK with that. I am just glad they shared their music with us. I see them as the soundtrack of my soul.

I see them as the soundtrack of my soul. This is very well said!!! Love it! I must admit I didn't LOVE Soup right away but after listening to it a few times I've seen (heard) the songs in a whole other way somehow... For me it's kind of albums I won't put on to play in "the background", you have to LISTEN to it! ...if this makes any sense, don't know if it's clear what I mean...doesn't matter...

Yeah the critics suck. You should read the reviews that the customers write on amazon though about soup. Most of them are the same.........WOW I remember this band had that bee girl song. I bought this album and was blown away. This is one of the best albums i have ever listened to.......The fans know what good music is. Soup is one of those albums you just have to listen to a couple of times, and then you're hooked forever.

Hey Matt, you're puzzled about a good review of the MIGHTY MORBID ANGEL, I understand if it's not your kind of music but I think they're pretty good for that genre of music. But as for the a bad review on the Soup album, they just didn't understand , anyone one with 1/2 a brain could be a critic and if you don't like B.M. you was less than 1/2 a functioning brain.

Hi fellow Melonheads, I just wanted to say awesome statement mentalfloss & very well put & it does make sense barbara. I totally agree! And on the critics, the good thing is that we all know how incredible BM is & we didn't need any critic to tell us that! It's just a shame they can't share in what great gifts of music & heart & soul they(BM) gave us. There will never be another Blind Melon. Have a great Melon filled day everyone!

for me personally i find it hard to read bad reviews, simply because when i have a band that i love and respect ( such as BM) i want everyone to see them in the same light that i do, i want them to appreciate the wonderful indepth lyrics, and the awesome music behind those words,
i am so passionate about the things i love, the bands that i adore and get something from personally i want others to share that life altering experience with me and i guess that why it can hurt when they are attacked in such ways, so i tend not to read too many reviews to avoid that gut wrenching dissapointment of hearing someone talk in a negative light about something that makes me smile, feel good and make a difference in my life. It's hard though and i do try to respect others opinions, however it is very hard when something you love so much is being critisised

I fell in love with Soup the first time I heard it. Most times I play that CD around people someone will usually ask "who's that band". I don't pay much mind to critics; I like to make up my own mind about other people's work be it a book, a movie, artwork etc. Actually, I really wish critics by profession didn't exist. How the hell do you become a critic if you don't practice the craft?
