So many favorites...I'm a big fan of Blind Melon lyrics.
I couldn't pick just segments from these particular songs...all the lyrics are worth noting: Change, Drive, I Wonder, All That I Need, Car Seat (God's Presents), Sleepyhouse, Soul One, Paper Scratcher, Deserted, Mouthful of Cavities, Life Ain't So Shitty, Mother
Tones Of Home:
"I always thought this would be
The land of milk and honey
Oh but I come to find out that its
All hate and money
And theres a canopy of greed holding me down"
No Rain:
"all I can do is read a book to stay awake
It rips my life away, but it’s a great escape"
Holyman:
"I was born on the banks off a hot muddy river
The child of one stupid steamy night
Born to roam beneath the sun
What do you think of me, I’m better left alone"
Seed To A Tree:
"With a candle comes emotions that
Dance with the shadows on my wall"
Time:
"Five fed up faces with the itch to kill a king
Blood red sunshine, and a breath to air that’s clean
I drink from the faucet
From the porch I take a pee
I look at you through the bushes
Where you can’t see me
I laugh and slip into another state of mind
To let you know that I am real
And all the worries you build up inside your soul
The ones that make your world stand still
Means you can feel, that it’s time to go"
2x4:
"Someone's pouring warm gravy all over me
And you see that synthetic therapy
Don't you know it seems to be so unappealing
But, oh what a feeling"
Toes Across The Floor:
"Doesn't anybody feel
That all these killers should be killed
All these healers should be healed
So all these beggers can be filled"
Walk:
"Find myself singing the same songs everyday
Ones that make me feel good
When things behind the smiles ain't ok"
St. Andrew's Fall:
"I can't tell you, how many ways that I've sat
and viewed my life today, but I can tell you
I don't think that I can find an easier way
So if I see you walking hand in hand in hand
with a three armed man, you know I'll understand
But you should have been in my shoes yesterday"
Soup:
"You gotta do your best to decorate this dying' day"
and
"outside way, way up high I got a quarter moon mist
hanging' over me"
I feel like I pretty much just mentioned most of their songs. :)What's cool about their lyrics is that I feel like I've grown with them through the years. There were a lot of lyrics that didn't make sense when I first started listening to them but now I know exactly whey they mean. It's obvious to me that Shannon had a lot of life experience by reading what he wrote. The more life I experienced, the more I really understood what he was saying. There were obviously some really dark heavy thoughts swirling through his mind at times as well as deeply poetic and wise observations. When I'm fed up and frustrated I can listen to Blind Melon lyrics and know that I'm not the only one who has had certain opinions and feelings about the world we live in...the lyrics are so true to life and I think anyone who is a thinking human being can relate to what he's saying on many different levels. Their music is timeless and classic.
