Hey, I've always wondered where did they get that name... I dunno If this is right, but oh well... maybe someone can help me solve the mistery: "Blind Melon was an American rock and roll band from the 1990s, composed of Shannon Hoon, Brad Smith, Glen Graham, Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn. The name Blind Melon describes some hippies from Mississippi, as used (or coined) by Brad Smith's father. Also 'Blind Melon Chitlin' was the name of a fictional bluesman appearing in a routine on the self titled Cheech and Chong LP." (continues) from: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Melon

I just found this on www.amiright.com/artists/blindmelon.shtml and I remembered your post... I see there's not much new in it but anyway... * I heard it was as a joke from every band's favorite cult movie of the 80s, This is Spinal Tap. It made reference to a fictional blues master "Blind Melon Chitlin" who taught Nigel how to play guitar. "But these go to eleven." Submitted by: Stevie I * There was a blues man named "Blind Lemon Jefferson", which Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong parodied as "Blind Melon Chitlin". The band stole the name. Submitted by: Dave Bowman

I read the name actually comes from Brad Smith's father who used "blind melons" to talk about his not-so-likely-to-succeed neighbours. Brad once said "what's up blind melons" and the others liked the name and kept it.

I also heard it was Brad's father that use to call the neighbors Blind Melons' (Unemployed Hippies).
