So I attended the NYC show on Friday night and held my thoughts & opinion of the show to myself until I could come on here & see what everyone else thought of the show. I see the people who did post state that they thought it was a great show. While the notes played by the band were spot on, and I don't think I heard one note "mis-played", I respectfully disagree about the show as a whole. I've been a Melon fan since the early 90's, and when they came back with Travis, I attended the 1st leg up in Rhode Island, thru Vermont, & down into NYC. I was happy to hear Travis' voice and how he let the crowd sing along with the songs. I also saw them in NYC & Jersey. Pretty much the same set list everytime...No rain, time, change, soup, 2x4, and so on. I went this past Friday night totally "in the know" that Melon is going slow and only playing a few dates this summer. I must say that I am completely disappointed that Travis STILL insists on letting the crowd sing almost every other song. Travis sings ONE verse, lets the crowd take over, then he just wails & screams on the mic. I'm attending to hear the band play & Travis sing. I don't want to hear the crowd sing every song. Saying that, I do realize that the crowd LOVES these songs, sings them in their cars, and enjoys singing along while the band plays. I wouldn't have a problem with the crowd singing if Travis sung as well. I cannot say anything negative about the band playing the notes. But Travis needs to step up & sing. When he isn't singing, he's just screaming & wailing on the mic. Did anyone in attendance notice during TIME that the song fell apart when Travis wouldn't stop screaming? Glenn & Rogers actually cut it short, stopped the song, & then went back into it, cuz Travis wouldn't stop. Plus, I got the feeling he didn't wanna sing cuz he asked the crowd "who wants to sing this part". No one did, sadly, and Travis had a suprised look on his face. I had the feeling the crowd was like "umm, why don't you sing Travis?". I don't know, just my opinion. I just have the feeling Travis doesn't wanna sing these songs. I walked outta the show thinking that Travis has run his course. It sucks.

Hey Joe,
I totally understand how you feel the way you do, I read your post several times until I really got what you were saying. I feel that these shows are definitely for the fans..and including us all, in a way, brings us closer to the band and the music we love. Travis puts his own spin on things, and he has his own unique style. Personally, I love hearing the crowd sing every word to every song. I love the energy and support from the Melonheads in the audience and it really gets me more into the show. Travis posted on FB that he has the flu pretty bad, and that could have contributed to less singing at the NY show. It's pretty hard to sing when you feel like you are about to barf. At the acoustic performance in DC he was spot on, and sang beautifully. I hope you can see some of that footage, because it was beautiful and intense. The band seemed really into it, and it was magical.

Wow Joe, Sorry you feel that way. Personally, all the things that bothered you are the things I enjoy about melon.

I was there in the front row right in front of CT& Brad. I guess I had a completely different experience than you. I was one of those crowd members that happily sang loud & didn't mind that Travis wasn't singing loud- especially now that I heard he's got the flu. And I agree with Mere, he probably wasn't 100% especially considering "It's pretty hard to sing when you feel like you are about to barf." I myself had a wonderful time and thought it was magical.

I've always said that Blind Melon was on the verge of being my favorite band for the long haul... Never got to see them, I was a fan for a long while, just never hooked up. Weird since I was going to shows all the time back then.....
Being my 1st show.... I thought it was Awesome!!!!! Loved the energy and I felt great for the guys. I imagine this was one of the more energetic and rockin shows they have done on the tour.
My one complaint in the back was that I really wish I could hear Brad's vocals a lot more....lol To me, BRAD'S VOICE was the one true Vocal connection we have - He should have been WAY up in the mix IMO.... Those Harmonies should have been 50/50 or heck, mix it towards MORE BRAD!!!! I don't know the background though maybe that goes against Brads wishes.
Had no complaints on Travis and actually felt lucky to have him around.... And yeah, being my 1st show, absolutely loved the crowd singing.
I do have to say the sound was A LOT better closer to the stage.... Then again, after some shots and a hell of a lot of drinks, Pusher sounded great at the back bar!!!

Maybe the flu was the problem. I wasn't aware of his illness. Or maybe I'm jaded, & just expect more. I don't know.
