I'm sitting here watching The Song Remains the Same on VH1 Classics, and I'm struck by something. When Travis Warren was performing on stage, the biggest difference between him and Shannon that I noticed was stage presence. Travis seemed to sing from his solar plexus, with kind of tense shoulders. I am noticing that Robert Plant and Shannon both sing from lower in their bodies, using their hips a lot more, with the hands brought up to the chest/shoulder height. I think that's the source of a more sexual aura emanating from Plant and Hoon, but was different/missing from Warren.
Anyhow, I also noticed Jimmy Page didn't seem to be using foot pedals, as I watched Rogers doing on stage. It could be that they just weren't showing it, but his guitars looked a lot different too, so maybe he didn't need foot pedals?
He used two different guitars that I saw, one with a double neck. Anyone know what kind of guitars Page used most frequently? (Don't get too technical, I won't know what you're talking about, lol).

Jimmy's guitar were/still are Gibson models (he also played Fender models). He also did use pedals. But, the soundguy also played a part of the bands effects/sounds.. The guy behind the board also has the ability to add effects to each instrument. John Bonham also used effects pedals.. (Flange/Phase/Pitch Change) Found this list: www.zeppinhood.net/lzequip/index.htmYou probably saw the effects box he used during the Song Remains the Same performance of Whole Lotta Love. Theremin, used by hand.

yep, later that night I saw him over there with it during Whole Lotta Love. Sounded like whales. Another time he used a string bow on his guitar that made some pretty eerie effects. Thanks for the info on the guitar, I thought it looked like a gibson but since I was basing that on the shape of guitar hero controllers, I wasn't going to say that. So does the foot pedal board give as many distortion options as the box does, or do you give up some versatility for convenience? Or does it not matter and it's just a personal choice?

You can literally have 1 foot pedal with 100s of effects programmed in. It's mostly personal preference. Some people like the way a certain brand sounds over others... People build their own pedal boxes (consisting of many different pedals/models): Same may use a programmed pedal board which is factory pre-built:

Rogers looked like example 1, LOL. Christopher, I noticed, would get up and walk over and turn things every once in a while, so I'm guessing he was using a box. Very illuminating! It seems to me that if you wanted to sound like a particular guitarist, you'd not only have to know what notes to play but what type of distortions to use as well. That can't be easy to figure out unless you were really familiar with their style.

thanks for the info. in starkville i was lucky enough to have rogers foot right in my face....really i loved it. i know blind melon uses quite a few effects, it was really neat to see ALL the pedals labeled with each song......i love listenin to some good wah....at least thats what my rocker ex husband called it. did they always use the same effects on shannons voice....did the guys on the sound board control that live? oh and just a random thought, i see zeppelins influence on alot of melon songs, but to me wilt is very zeppelinish......i think that everytime i hear that song......and of course shannon kills out on the tiles.....one of the most fantastic remakes ever.

I'll have to go back an listen to some older shows... As for the newer shows, Travis used a lot delay(echo)/reverb.. The soundguy controlled how much (and when) to use the vocal effects. I'm sure it was the same with Shannon.
