I listened to the whole album as well.. I like the opening line of the album.. It's something like: "Hope. A new beginning." Then, the song goes on to talk about (in my opinion) how they are happy to be back together, without any regrets... And, that there is nothing they can do now but continue ("there's no going back"). Feeling as though the band has a lot of music left to make.
For now, my fav would be "Acid Bubble".

cant wait to hear the album! I'm old school tho so I have to wait for the official release and listen to the physical album. I did that with For My Friends as well. Ofcourse that album was much more anticipated for me than AIC

Well, I was at the House of Blues in Chicago this past weekend to see them live. Here is what I took from the show.........
I was always a skeptic of replacing iconic figures in a band until I saw Travis play with Blind Melon. That wonderful run made me rethink my exile of bands that continue on after losing a lead singer. The fit for BM was perfect. I would have never gone to see the new AIC if it were not for the new Blind Melon. What I learned from the show is that it has to be a perfect fit for it to make any sense. It was really nice to hear the thundering opening of 'Rain When I Die" (damn, Sean Kinney POUNDS the shit out of the drums!!!!) The packed house went ape! I could not believe I was hearing such a powerful song, live. "Again" was the second song, WOW!!! But then I started to notice something. The emotion coming from Jerry, Mike and Sean was amazing; the emotion coming from William was empty. I regress to BM. Watching Travis you could sense that the emotion behind the songs was real for him, he was not just singing the songs. Even thou Travis did not experience the energy of the song writing for "Soup" and "Blind Melon" he presented it on stage as if he had. That was the difference. Seeing AIC live was awesome, don't get me wrong. But William Duvall is waaaaaaaaaaay to pop culture for AIC. He played the part but you could tell it was an act. There was so much digital altering of his voice that anyone could have sang the part of Layne. In the end I am glad I made the trip from Indy to see them (Chicago is always a wild time). My favorite songs from the night were "Junkhead" and "Rain When I Die".

It is a fantastic album!
When I listen to it I just think of Jerrys solo stuff though, which is good... Just... I wanna hear more of William!
Either way, it's amazing!

I am very excited to hear the new album next week! It still makes me sad that BM is no longer together, I was hoping that they would be together forever!

The more I listen to the new album, the more I think it was recorded before Will even came in. It's basically Jerry singing.. and William doing a few harmonies here and there.
Dont get me wrong... I still love the album... I've always love Cantrell's solo stuff..
To me, it's like listening to the heavier songs from their self titled album, minus Layne, with an occassional backing singer.

To me there is no drop off from any of AIC's previous albums to this one. If you squint your ears (makes sense to me), you can almost imagine that Layne is on there. And no I am not trying to be morbid. It just feels like AIC's next album. I did not feel this with the new Blind Melon. Travis brought his own style to the band. A lot of the songs were written by him previous to even joining. I could not ear squint Shannon on the new stuff. But, I digress. The new AIC kicks ass and that's all that matters to me.

i agree w/Matt. It sounds like a lot of it was done and ready to go before there even was a vocalist. Jerry played a BIG BIG BIG part of prior AIC vocals. Many people never realized this.
It was kinda the same thing with Van Halen and their background vocals.... Michael Anthony contributed a LOT to that "backing vocal" sound that van halen had.
But with Jerry, it was moreso in the Front end vocals. I like the album. And i've always liked AIC albums. SAP has always been one of my "go to" albums. Jar of Flies was another.
I do have to admit... as much as i LOOOVED hearing them.... i saw them several times live. And honestly... i was bored. Twice touring for Facelift, once touring for DIRT. i was really disappointed with the live show. But it was always a band that i KNEW that the proof was in the music, and it never stopped me from buying the albums and listening many times over.

I am loving this album! Did you guys see Jerry play acoustic Black Gives Way to Blue at the Moore/Seattle with an empty stool next to him? It was for Layne! I am a BIG Alice/Jerry fan and this is what I needed! This album is beyond expectations...There isn't one skip song in there!!! I have that book "Grunge is Dead" and it was written by Greg Prato, I really loved his work on Shannon's book so I can wait to start reading it! I'm seeing Alice 5 times before the end of the year...OMG!!!!

I'm really digging the new album. Your Decision, Black Gives Way to Blue, Check My Brain, and Lesson Learned our my favorites after a few listens.
