I would like to explain my pro travis vote.
While I'm not happy with the fact that he left and caused them to cancel at least 6 months of shows, I do feel that he was the best fit that they'd found so far. I also know from experience at how internet communications can easily "let the day get outta control" because it is so easy to misinterpret the tone of an email. People make mistakes, people say things they don't mean, shit happens. If they were able to work it out for at least one more show, that's certainly a great thing and shows character for all involved.
I do feel though, that he at least owes his fans an apology for the canceled tour dates, it was unprofessional to allow personal feelings get in the way of his responsibilities. As a fan, it would be take time for me to trust that he wouldn't leave again, but the fact that he was able to talk to them and come to a mending and agreement is positive. To me that says that perhaps he has learned from this experience and may be able to work with them on a long term basis.
From my point of view, I will never know the whole story of who said what or why, nor should I. What I see, from my perspective as a fan, is how I am treated by the band. The four founding members have been respectful, kind, and responsible to the fans. They keep their personal lives mostly private, and concentrate on discussions of their music, yet communicate what their goals and intentions as a whole are, while not being standoffish or condescending. That is how it should be, and I hope that Travis can learn that from them.
I like Chris Shinn's voice very much, and while it would have been exciting to hear him in Blind Melon, I couldn't help but wonder about the rest of EIE. It didn't seem fair to me that they would be left without a singer, and if he was going to try to split his time, he would have burned out pretty quickly. It seems to me that it would have been very stressful to him to try to fufill obligations to both bands. Maybe I'm wrong, my knowledge of how musicians work on a daily basis is slim to none.
That was also my qualms about the other singer that had been proposed, Heath Seager. I think he would have been great, but he would also have been leaving his current band in a lurch if he left.
I think loyalty counts for a lot, would BM be concerned if someone was willing to leave their current band so easily? Is it kind of like a relationship, where if you have an affair with someone, you wonder in the back of your mind if you can fully trust them? Maybe some of you know the answer to that.
Anyhow, that is why I voted for Travis, and I certainly hope that "going out with a bang" was only referencing 2008, and not their time as a band.

Now that the guys were able to come to terms and play the New Years Show I think there is a chance they can continue even further. Travis was a natural fit and they never went looking for him. It just happened. Destiny. I truly believe that Travis and Blind Melon can make great music together. For My Friends only scratched the surface. I was really looking forward to the next album. Plus Rogers said that they were going to record a live album soon and I think for people to hear a live set from BM would definitely turn some heads. Hopefully, they will be able to make plans for the future. I understand that onstage they are magical, they will have to find a way to fix whatever is wrong offstage. To me what the guys have is truly amazing and I hope they believe that it is something that they should fight for to keep alive. COMPROMISING is one of the best pieces of advice I have received on relationships. Hopefully, all involved can work together to find a happy medium. Whatever happens good luck to all involved and if you continue I will be there every step of the way!!! If not I will treasure the amazing memories that I have had the past few years!!! Peace, Love, & BLIND MELON...

Keep Travis!! We have been waiting for way too long for melon to find the "right" vocalist. After years of waiting, Melon was back. There was a reason why Travis was in the band to begin with and he should be given another shot(if he wants it). No more Chris Shinn(although an amazing vocalist) talk, no more talk about Jena singing, KEEP TRAVIS!!

I say move on from Travis...if he didn't want to do it then who's to say that he's not going to throw a wrench in the cogs of the machine at a later point and this happens again?
Maybe I'm just still a little pissed over the whole thing but he really should have known what he was getting into in the first place and have been prepared....
Ahh thats it I'm not saying anymore
All the best to whoever is the singer old or new

If it were all about playing the old stuff, I would enjoy seeing Travis for a 5th time, and almost did. At this point I want to hear some more great music. I think Travis helps some of the newer tracks and others come off a little cliche'. I will never forget that meeting him stoked the fires that brought this band back together, but keeping that in mind we have to remember Travis started out to make his own music. Let's not kid ourselves and think this is still not a goal of his. Then where is "our" band.

Right Now,I'm grateful & excited to be going to The New Years Eve Show.I'm totally accepting of having Travis back.I was totally accepting of their choice to try & have Shinn sing for them under the name Blind Melon too. I guess what it comes down to,for me is,Brad,Rogers,Christopher & Glenn are so freaking talented,They wouldn't continue performing if they didn't Love it,if somehow things weren't working as Blind Melon. Shinn,as You know,is an incredible vocalist & I will go see him if he happens to play somewhere around Michigan.Yes,I probably sound a little wishy washy but I just want to hear some good music & we have that. Now that Travis is back,it's as it should be. I would Love to have them record another album/cd with Travis T. & as Blind Melon.I'm sure they have more songs to finish, new songs to write together. That's the best I can hope for the future for now. After that,it's confusing & a complete mystery,so I don't think too far into the future.Blind Melon Is A Band! Do I even make sense?Someone let me know if I don't. Peace Melons!

You make plenty of sense and I hope that you are right about future albums with Travis. They have only broken the surface and I think the best is yet to come!

I think the band could legitimately play as Blind Melon with Travis, and ALSO create a new band with Chris (or a reformed Unified Theory).
I'm not so sure there's much of a "future" for new blind melon music with Travis, but there will always be a market for show playing older BM hits.
Meanwhile I think there's a legitimate chance for some commercial success with Chris Shinn and a chance for the band to explore new directions.
Two bands, different singers... not as far fetched as one might think. Look at someone like Les Claypool, who is in about 5 bands. Look at Dave Navarro playing with Jane's Addiciton a few weeks ago, and then with Camp Freddy a dozen times a year. Likewise Perry Farrel tours with about 3 bands.
with myspace and bands making money off music downloads without major label support, this could be the best thing monetarily for all of them.. and as long as they're making money, they can continue to give us fans what we want and need.

I'd would have liked to hear them with CS. I've liked his voice since they guys started working with him. I was bummed when the cinematic sessions were cut short....
That said, i also LOVE "for my friends" era BM with Travis. It was a shame that the shows were canceled, but if they can reconcile and amicably work together while creating good music, then i'd be for it with Travis.
My vote is to do it with whomever gives them the long term stability in the band without compromising the talent level.

I think the band should continue with Travis on the mic. I know there have been differences but I hope they can work them out. I have seen them perform live so many times and there was magic every time. I hope to see that magic again.
