This is really sad news, but I have a gut feeling that it won't really be sad for the band afterall. It is a sad streak, but not the end. I remember 2 years ago when we all checked in here (the forum), and posted about blind melon trivia and marveled at the tunes we have been listening too for years. Travis came into the picture when the band was ready to entertain the thought of getting back out there.... the timing was right so, he really was a gift! A gift of hope to these awsome musicians and creative souls and a seed of excitement for what the future would hold for our hungry ears Remember how much fun it was to read to blow by blow recap of them writing new songs?! I remember the day the posted their first video on youtube and their myspace site. We all became alive again. THank you for letting us fans experience all of this... by getting back out there. Travis was the missing link, and I think we are all forever grateful for that, regardless of the strains that are currently happening behind the scenes. He was an important step in the bands' return.... the product of perfect timing- and his voice rocks. Thank you Rogers, for being so clear, professional and honest about this next phase of Blind Melon in letting us know. I know there are many upset people out there, feeling like they got cheated out of more time with blind melon, and are looking for someone to be mad at. I hope we can all just send good vibes to each of you involved... and stick with Blind Melon, the band, and honor each stage of this whole big picture. I know I sure will be! Thank you all for taking a chance on regrouping with blind melon, thank you for being strong enough to make the tough decsions, and thank you for keeping on keepin' on----- Thank you, and I wish all of you the best in getting through this.... all of you! #smileyhug#

What a wild day in Melonville. I just read Travis' 2nd post. Not much to "read" into really. I personally wish the guy luck. It simply wasn't meant to be. It's funny though in hindsight, everything seemed so rosy a week ago lol. Moving on ....

Guys - I don't like how some of the comments are already going. Please show no disrespect to Travis. It's hard for him and the band. Blind Melon is a Band.... I agree, everyone makes bad decisions. Everyone has their moments, of fear, greed what have you. Obviously this is not a happy situation for anyone involved. Let's just remember why we're all in this, Travis included. The music. He wanted to focus on his music. Fine, but music is still being made. And in the end that's all any bands or singer have to show. With the news of Chris Shinn, let's move on to another Era of Blind Melon. And if you are a fan of Travis' music keep your ears on it. He honestly does not seem like a bad bloake. Like I said everyone makes decisions that other may view as bad. You just gotta do whats right for you.

Personally, if Chris is open to continue permanently with the band, the band should grab him with open arms... I seriously reckon he could take them to new places, his voice and the BM sound i bet would garner international attention, and more importantly a new generation fans, a situation i believed Travis and the last album lacked... but that is just my opinion... Travis was fantastic in that he brought the band back, and taking all the brunt of the naysayers, and i totally respect him for that... but if his heart is not in it for the bands sake, im glad he has chosen not to continue... and i think it comes down to the age thing, Travis, a predominantly solo up-and-comer, with a group of experienced, successful musicians, in the back of my mind i knew this probably would not work out... Travis seems more inclined to the indie thing while the guys perhaps want something more successful, and it is a mature decision they have made... hopefully the history Chris holds with the band will translate into chemistry, and in turn, success and happiness...

This is all soo much to take in all at once, and i feel bad for all involved I feel, actually i can't even say or express how i feel, but i do have hope and have a feeling, that it can only get better! My biggest fear is the band breaking up and no more melon for us, but that is not the case, so it's actually not all that bad, and not the end of the world. I am exited to see them perform when they come back to CALI(you guys owes us those shows:P) and see them with Chris. I am saddened it did not work out with Travis, but melon life goes on. It's like dating someone and not working out so ya have to let go and move on. Things might not be amicable at first, but as time passes it may heal the wounds. Or not. But i think we were all (or most)- Blind Melon fans pre-Travis, and will remain loving and supporting them even after. I feel they need our support more than ever now! and we should show them as fans we are there for them! Just like their music has been there for us. I know i will forever be a melon fan until my last breath and in my next life. For now, i feel like i want to make cupcakes and send them a batch hehe to cheer up and feel better! and i look forward to the next chapter. I also think we should welcome Chris with open arms, given he is stepping into an akward situation, so i give him props and a big huge hug and thanks for doing it for the band and all of us!

That guy's a heck of a singer!
Sorry it didn't work out with Travis, I'm kind of over the initial shock. No matter what I'm behind my band, sounds like we all are! I would love to hear some word on whether Chris Shinn is a permanent replacement or if it's only a temporary fix. Either way, great of him to step up in the time of need.

I don't know why, but my account was no longer "in service" when I tried to log in.
Anyways, I don't really know what to say. This was completely unexpected. I guess all I have for now is I wish Travis the best in his future endeavors, and I hope Melon pulls through.
I'll see you guys in NYC next week.

Nobody likes stuff thrown in their face that they said in the past...especially when things dont work out, but this interview was so awesome and touching.... (See Video Below)
Also, I know the band has their reasons. I understand and accept that, but the fans... most should be ashamed of themselves for turning on Travis OVERNIGHT. Nobody talked shit two days ago, now this happens and people "never really liked him" and "he was no Shannon Hoon", etc.. People are harsh ASSHOLES, who would have went out of their way to meet him when he was in the band and now talk nothing but trash about him. He never said he wanted to BE Shannon anyway. Wish Travis well and move forward. Dont badmouth him.. Rogers was trying to AVOID that and keep it from happening and its happening anyway because people just cant be nice.
Blind melon is my number 2 favorite band ever and when shannon died I hadn't seen them in concert and it was so sad and disappointing because thats what I do.... I see my bands! Then my daughter, Emily came along. She was at walking age when Galaxie came out.. the video was on a lot. I have home videos of her dancing to blind melon when she was 1 year old and turning up the stereo volume. Well... after all these years they got together again and I would be lying if I said I wasnt skeptical. I didnt think I would like travis but I LOVED him. He treated my daughter so wonderfully, and that memory will be with her and me for the rest of our lives it was TRAVIS that put his hand out and pulled her up there to sing that song that she had loved for years.... He gave her an opportunity that most never have had or ever will have. She got to perform WITH Blind Melon.
Thank you, Travis!
The rest of the guys, Good Luck... Chris sounds awesome and will fit in nicely as well. You haven't lost this fan.
