Hey everyone, This thread might be in the wrong section, but as we are all reading the new Blind Melon book, I thought we could share some of our favorite moments and/or quotes. I am only at the 120 minutes tour but one of my favorite lines so far is from Glen "The saying goes "They holed up in this house in North Carolina, did a bunch of songwriting." Glen's response "No. We smoked a bunch of dope and wrote two songs...lol I thought that was classic!! I am interested to hear everyone elses' favorites? Peace, Love, & Blind Melon Ryan

I literally laughed out loud when I read about the principal and vasoline. Yeh that was a good one too. Sounds like something Shannon would do...

Just finished the book tonight -- slow reader, plus I really wanted to absorb it -- Wow, I mean, I knew a lot of the story from reading through this forum and articles, but there is a lot of really surprising things in the book. I won't spoil anything for those that do not have it or haven't read it yet, but Greg Prato did a great job pulling all that together and forming it in a very fluid way. The section entitled Aftermath was deep. Real deep. It puts you right there and it was pretty gut wrenching to read. It leads me down a path of greater understanding of the band that is Blind Melon.
What a great read.

Well, this isnt a quote, but i was at the show where shannon hit the security guard. That show was wild...i was on rogers side in the balcony and people were jumping from there and it seems like they were hangin off the lights too. I never really knew the whole story behind the incident but i do remember they had to cut the show short. I had no idea about shannon hiding in the freezer..glad he was able to get away. I was at the starkville show and told rogers what show i was at and he said...oh yeah, shannon almost went to jail that night because he hit the security guard with a mic. It must have been one of the wilder shows for him to remember that. Im not gonna say the name of the place because they didnt mention it in the book, not sure if there is a reason for that, but just in case, i wont. I will say that the place is closed down now i think, it was in pretty rough shape then. oh yeah, just wanted to say im loving the book....love hearing the girls perspective and i just love glen.....i love his matter of fact honesty..looooove blind melon even more now, if thats possible!!

I haven't quite finished the book yet (at least 1 copy has winged it's way down to Australia that I know of!), but I just read some of the funniest and touching stories in the Shannon '94-'95 chapter: Shannon and the Japanese Beetles... the Blazer battery... the Seattle Beanery autographed shirt... the Tom Petty fans. Oh, and I never knew that Shannon was a Janis Joplin fan. That put a huge smile on my face. The book is an amazing read, intense indeed, a wealth of information and so much better than I imagined.

I may have to go back through the book with a high lighter and mark all my favorite quotes. I love the one where this person asked Shannon for his autograph, and Shannon said "Yea..But only if I can have yours." Thats really cool. I love how he really didnt see himself as a big deal. He knew people liked him and he was selling music but he just didnt think that he was any different than anyone else.

I love this book through and through. This year has been like a full course meal that never ends! We keep getting filled with new Melon Material !!! I LOVE IT. I've just finished it, and am feeling really low right now. I haven't felt this way in a Loooong time. I've always had the greatest appreciation for the guys. From where they've come from, how they came to be, their approach musically (keep'n it natural), their professionalism. Of course the music has always spoke volumes.....
the book just told it how it was.... from the eyes of those closest to Shannon. I had NO CLUE the things the fellas kept under wraps. MAN. it's heavy. I have family that suffers from mental conditions, and know how difficult to reason through that. And have had friends strung out.... and know how ridiculous it can be pounding sense through the haze. those things were minor in comparison to what the fellas had on their hands, & we only got a glimpse (through the book) the goings on.
I was royally pissed to find out the raw deal the label stood on(after their 'restructuring'). Their role really should have been "Big Brother". There are many Bright points in the book. Many, many. Hilarious stories(what Shannon did on the Stones tour.. OMG!!!!! #bananadevil# ). Just the new light on the dark side of things....just... PHEW
if it's possible, My appreciation of these guys has now gone a few notches deeper! #smilieIloveblindmelon#
if u haven't already ordered it.... #mrt-2#

Amazing book, just finished it and now too have a greater appreciation for Blind Melon. I also am missing Shannon even more now. The book spoke of a solo record that Shannon wanted to do eventually. Christopher may one day end up releasing it. I would like to think that Shannon would want it all to be heard...

Few more quotes: You know what? Fuck You. OUr music will stand the test of time. The revenge we will have will be the children of our most harshest critics blasting our music through their parents' houses and telling you what short-sighted fools you were for not getting into it the first time around." -Glen Graham
On Travis Warren: "He also has his own distinct, engaging personality onstage and is accepted completely by our fans, old and new. Quite naturally, these strengths have served him well, as his ability to consistently find favor with female fans offstage is...considerably more than minor (lol)." -Glen Graham

"So they came down, grabbed us, and 'chicken-winged' us all the way down the aisle-in front of everyone" Rogers on him and Shannon's A.M.A's trip This makes me laugh out loud every time I read it
