Whoo hooooo~ mine came in the mail today. #goodevil# My mail normally runs around 12-1pm, but today I thought I received NO mail because @ 3:30pm my mailbox was empty. A few minutes later the door bell rang and it was my youngest son standing there with a "special delivery" is what he said when I opened the front door. My book.......I went into an excitement spell, loaded up the kayak and headed down the street to the dock to launch, planned on finding a small cove and digging in. But today my lake was like trying to yak in the ocean, too many waves and too strong of winds to be able to chill out and relax. It was a tiring paddle both going and coming back to the dock. I only got 90 minutes in today, cause I was so ready to start my book. Then I had to take the kiddos to Karate, warm up some dinner, baths, brush, and off to bed for the kiddos. Now I couldn't help myself but to come here real quick before I start, to add my "IT"S HERE" post. Felt like sharing it cause I am SOOOOOO happy that I have it in my hands..... #smiliebounce# #smiliedancing# #dancinglady# #float# #whitedancesmilie#
Happy reading to everyone~ #hoonsmiley#

i just finished reading the book last night. im in quite the funk today. im not in a very good mood today. thank goodness its friday. i need the weekend to rejuvenate myself. ive heard lots of stories through the years about shannon and the band, but now this book has really filled in a lot of the blanks. when i first started listening to the band, and i know you can all relate to this, i had such a connection to the band and their music. shannon was so real to me. there was a time in my life where nothing was good, and the best friend i had in life was shannon. i had never met the man and he gave me such comfort. and then i started going to vigils and met nel and vernie and anna and her daughters, and i met so many amazing people from all over the world, all coming together for one reason: shannon! and so then, shannon felt all that more real to me. and now after reading this book, such an amazingly wonderful book... i feel even closer to him then before. i love it too because now i feel i know more about the rest of the guys in the band... glenn is kick ass! a quiet warrior! im having a tough time concentrating on other things. the two forms of entertainment that i connect most closely with and most enjoy are books and music. shannon is my favorite singer, melon is my favorite band. this book couldn't have been any better. it tells the story so well, so passionately.

[glow=red,2,300]Journal & Courier - Sunday, October 5, 2008 Book looks at life of Shannon Hoon Another book on a rock star from Lafayette was published recently. "A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on the Other" by New York music journalist Greg Prato looks at the life of the late Shannon Hoon, McCutcheon High School graduate and vocalist for popular 1990s rock band Blind Melon. The book is presented in chronological interviews. Prato does not insert any of his own words. From his home in Long Island, N.Y., Prato fashioned "A Devil" after his favorite book, "Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk" by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain. Besides the surviving members of Blind Melon, Prato features revealing quotes from Hoon's mother, Nell Hoon, longtime girlfriend Lisa Sinha, and former Styff Kytten bandmate and current Lafayette musician Michael Kelsey. Rockers who toured with or collaborated with Hoon are on there, too: Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Duff McKagen and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses), Mike Inez (Alice in Chains), Curt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets) and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). Like "Watch You Bleed," the book starts in Lafayette before following the rocker's move to Los Angeles. Hoon's rise to rock stardom is documented in words from more than 50 sources and candid photos from band photographer Danny Clinch. The book ends with Hoon's Oct. 21, 1995, death. But an epilogue mentions Blind Melon's reformation with new singer Travis Warren. The book is available through online orders only from www.myspace.com/gregpratopage and stores.lulu.com/gregprato.[/glow]

I love the book so far. I thought that I would hate it was just quotes and not the authors words but I'm diggin it. I thought I would have it read by now but I'm only about 40 pages in. Can't wait to finish it up.

I noticed that there aren't any reviews of the book yet on Amazon.com or Lulu.com - if you enjoyed the book, help Greg (the book's author) out by posting your reviews on those sites!!

I'm about halfway through now. I'm taking it really slowly because I don't want it to end. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I love the book so far. I thought that I would hate it was just quotes and not the authors words but I'm diggin it. Same for me! I love it so far. I love finding out so many new things about Shannon and the band and about their whole story. I basically never read cause I'm always too busy with other things and also because it's hard for me to focus. But I have no problem focusing while reading this one, hehe.
