At the last Columbus, Ohio show this summer, just after I parked my car, I ran into Christopher who was getting something out of the bus. "You want to read the book that was written about us?" he asked. He had a print out of the book - not bound or anything. How could I turn that down??? I didn't know what to expect but I really liked the way it was written ... just a series of quotes on particular topics from a wide variety of people. Having been on the very outer edge of things during the first album time, it was really cool to read about some of the stuff that I vaguely knew about.
I wound up reading the book in 2 days.
I emailed Christopher to thank him for letting me read the book and having a sneak preview. Brad and Rogers both suggested that I contact Greg and tell him that I might have some stories that he could use but the book seemed to be finished (though not printed or published) so I decided against it. I gave the manuscript back to Christopher when I saw them in Cincinnati a few weeks later as it was his only copy.
For those who have yet to read it ... it's a great read, great first hand accounts. For as well as I thought I knew the guys, there is a lot in that book that I didn't know. I know Brad and Christopher both said that it was an intense read for them because it brought back so many memories. I'll agree that it was intense and the last few months of Shannon's life make me really sad. I didn't know of all his problems or how involved with drugs he was (at the time). It kind of sucked reading the ending because I already knew the outcome and knew it wasn't going to be good.
Other than that, very well done. Greg did a fantastic job of letting the people tell the story rather than trying to tell it himself. Kudos!

I got "mine" already...actually I got it for my neice (shine) for her beeday. I thought it would be okay to look at the pics, and I couldn't help but read the first fifteen pages, I know...can you believe I stopped?! Me either! I was loving it! Then I was feeling guilty and wanted her to get her present in the brand new condition that she deserves. So I wrapped it..... but I think I'm gonna have to unwrap it. I still want to have it for my own, but my beeday seems way too far away to wait! I thought I was patient, but maybe I'm not!

I love the picture of Shannon with Chris Farley. I was a huge fan of Chris when I was younger.

this book is just brilliant. im 100 pages in and i absolutely love it. its so emotional. i sit on my front porch a lot and read. i smoke cigs (and other things) but not in the house so yea, i sit on my porch for all hours of the night/day, whatever. i find myself laughing and crying. i just cant get enough. i think it will be one of those books for me that as soon as im done reading it, i'll read it again. before this "biography", if you can call it that?? two of my favorite biographies are Dark Star about Jerry Garcia. Which is really kewl, cuz its the same set up as this one about shannon. But my ultimate favorite biography is one on Bob Marley, "Catch a Fire". Ive read a few on Bob and this one is just pure magic. But 'the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other' is right there on the same shelf as those.
Peace love and shannon hoon
