I know this is an old thread, but I just joined in 11/07, so I'm just catching up slowly on threads, and I'm constantly Melonfying both friends and strangers alike. I was recently at a metal-type head shop in Orange County, NY (home of the infamous"Orange County Choppers") called "Rock Fantasy" buying T-shirts. I asked if they happened to have any Melon T-shirts and these 3 skin-head types just laughed their asses off when I said that, and said to me, "Those pussies?" and one even sang a snippet of "No Rain" (sarcastically, of course). Well, I wasn't going to let these ignoramises have their belly laugh @ my fav band's expense, so I whipped out my i-Pod and played "2x4" , "Wilt" & " I Wonder" for them. "Still think they're pussies, guys?" I said. My satisfaction came with the shocked look on their faces( complete with mouths hanging open) when they realized these guys kick ass, and they now had egg on their faces, and that it took an old lady like me to show them what they should have known already. But I tried to turn it into an educational thing, catching them up with band history , and at that point, they were no longer laughing & were actually listening to what I had to say. It was enlightening, to say the least.

I always try to melonfy my friends. My room mate gets it the worst because I'm always playing Live at the Metro or blasting my cds. The other night she had a friend over and they came in as I was watching Live at the Metro and her friend was like "This is awesome music but that guy looks like a crackhead!!" I didn't know what to say... So I just told her to listen to it instead of judging. One of my friends recognized No Rain and wanted to hear more so we watched a bunch of videos. But, another of my friends is obsessed with Nirvana and she didn't care for Blind Melon when I gave her some songs so... I guess some people just connect with it and some don't. The most we can do is make sure people hear them and at least get a chance to melonfy. :-)

I am in the process of melonfying some of my students. I have one girl hooked (who in turn turned her boyfriend on to them). It is my mission to have every student at the school I work at love Blind Melon! I pretty much play it all day long in my office and when students ask who they are I launch into an explination of how they are the best band ever!

I got my brother into Melon. He's not a huge fan but he says Soup is one of the best cd's he has ever heard. He also bought the selftitled and Nico..
If I remember correctly,I introduced Blind Melon to Hanna as well, who is a member here. At the moment I'm working on two other friends. We'll see how they turn out. One of the will hear alot of Blind Melon on Saturday since I'm going over to his house with a bunch of dvd's..

I was a lonely melonhead in the 90's but got a couple friends to listen to them. I also turned both of my little brothers on to 'em. My youngest brother (see Up for Grabs on Myspace) got all his friends into them and now we have sort of a melonhead tribe.

I know this is gonna sound stupid but here goes I was at work today and one of the drivers that works for pets at peace came in and asked who has the Blind melon decal on their van?I said that was my van and he said thats awesome I love that band.So I started to tell him about the band getting back together and vigil and anything else I could think of.I was so excited my hands were shaking as I was leaving for lunch I saw the necklace Nel made for vigil last year hanging from my mirror so I took it off and walked over to his truck and gave it to him. He was very happy. Can I just say that really made my day~ ~The Happy Dork~

Hey Brandy- That is so cool of you to do that for another fan of the band, and one you just met. Although I've found through this site that there really are no strangers, only friends of the band, which links us all together, and why it feels like family here. Hope you gave him our web address- maybe you even recruited a new member! Hugs to you-- Megs

That's awesome Brandy! I have a melon sticker on my car too so I hope something like this happens to me one day My ex's friend had a Phish sticker on his car, he and my ex are both big phisheads. One day when they went to town and came back to his parked car, two guys were waiting by the car...they were american phisheads and when they saw the sticker they waited there until the owner came back One of the two guys lived in Slovenia for awhile then (I don't know if he still does) so they kept in contact and I met him later. Another funny story: My ex and his friend were at a Phish festival and had a slovenian flag with them. A slovenian living in the states saw the flag but he was on LSD so he just thought "wow, this LSD is good!!!" Some time later when they were all back home, my ex's friend saw on the internet that a phishead had a slovenian name. It was that same slovenian phishead living in the states who saw the flag and thought he was just tripping! He and his brother (also phishead) are cousins of one of my good friends (they come to Slovenia from time to time so I met them too) and that's also how my ex knew my friend before he and I even met, we haven't met through my friend though. I hope you were able to understand my story and relation between all the ppl, it's a bit confusing The point is, Slovenia is sure a small country!

I kind of melonfied a guy in my english class... he took my mp3 player and listened to blind melon and said he liked them and asked who they were... I didn't go into detail about them because he kind of annoys me. heh
