Yeah, it's ricockulously expensive. I was lucky enough to inherit a bit of cash from a grandmother.

Helps to have a great cart on it too. I have the Audio Technica AT150. Puts 'em right in the room. No distortion.

Well? Anyone bought any new vinyl lately.
(May I divulge a peeve of mine? Yeah? Ok. Here goes. When refering to vinyl albums, please please please don't call them 'Vinyls'. I don't know who wrote that or where, let alone if it was even on this forum, but it just for some reason disturbs me to see that. Plus, it demonstrates novicism regarding the medium. To me, the plural of vinyl is, vinyl. Thanks. Ok, back to our regularly scheduled yapyap)

hmmm....well for Father's Day I bought Greg 2 more for the collection. Grateful Dead "American Beauty" (brand new 180 gram) and Led Zeppelin "IV" (brand new 180 gram). He just gave me a nice big list of everything he wants for his birthday next month so as soon as I get home from vacation next week I'm going to start hunting some stuff down. Thanks for the vinyl clarification. I'm not sure if I have ever referred to them as "vinyls" in plural, but either way it's good to know. The last thing anyone wants to do is to unknowingly sound like a douche when discussing their vinyl collection.

Sonya, that American Beauty is a good one. I recently got that one too. Does yours have a all green WB (Warner Brothers) label? It probably does.
What's always good is to find the original albums that have that label and not the Palm Tree or Cream colored label. Those always sound excellent.
The new pressing of that Dead album, with the 180 gram sounds ok. I still would rather have the original, but, I'll take what I got being those old ones are a bitch to locate cheaply.
I doubt the vinyls thing even happened here. I haunt a few different forums and I think it was the Bukowski forum where I saw that.

$150 !!!!!!!!!??
Wow. Good thing the original CDs were made before the loudness wars made them all sound like shit.

No - as in zero - Warner Bros vinyl should be avoided. They made the best sounding vinyl in the 70s and 80s. The reason the greenies are better (if they're original pressings) is because they took mucho care in pressing them. Plus, the closer you get to the first pressings of a title, say American Beauty from 1970, the closer you are to the master tape. The goal is to get as close to the master tape as possible for the best sound. Remasters usually NEVER sound better. They are generations of tape down the line. Therefore noiser and well, the hi-fi gets stripped away sadly.
Ooohh hoo hoo I'm gonna turn you into a vinyl audioweenie just like me sooner than I thought! Muahahahahahahaa!

There is a NM Soup up for sale on Ebay and for cheap! I payed way more for mine, so someone better snatch this one up! It's cheap now but with 2 days to go in the auction, I am sure it will be well over 60 bucks. I haven't seen one go for much less then that. I want it, that much is true, but right now its hard to justify paying over 100 (or even 60) bucks for something I already can listen too. My dream is to run into it somewhere, being sold for way less then its worth. Unlikely, yes, but possible. I'll have both of em on vinyl someday. It's good to have things to want. Peace.
