I think Bee Happy, Ishbell and Gelfling all gave good interpretations that I tend to agree with. My definition of a hippie in today's terms would be someone who does everything they can to protect the Earth and respects the environment in general. People who try to live a natural and/or organic lifestyle. It would also be someone who is skeptical of the government and corporate politics. People who are open minded to ideas. People who would rather help others than hurt others. People who try to live a positive approach to life. I think someone who lives more than one of these ways can be considered a hippie. I think of it as a good thing and that if everybody lived by these principles the world would be a better place. And yes, I consider myself a hippie. I think it sucks how the word has a negative connotation to it because in my mind a person who tries to live with these ideals is trying to be anything but negative.#bearhug# You are bang on sonyagirl, I couldn't of said it better myself. I also hate the negative connotations associated with the word hippie. I've been told "oh, you're such a hippie", because of the way I live, like I won't see certain movies or buy certain products and I give a monthly donation to the NDP political party, not much but enough to say "I care", I also support the Make Poverty History movement whom our own homegrown Bare Naked Ladies are very much part of. My favorite saying is "might does not make right". So sometimes being dismissed as a hippie really pisses me off. Maybe there oughta be more people like us out there at least trying to make a difference. I'll be a "hippie" all my life; I can't see being anything else. #peace# #blindmelon_01#
