Video killed the radio star........how true is that???
Colin, I absolutely agree with your point that people shouldn't like or dislike a band because of the appearance or image of the band members. Marketing does play a huge role in music that receives mass airplay. Some people need to have their music force fed to them. I guess what it all boils down to is that people like music for different reasons...what sells a band to me personally is their sound and whether or not they can pull off a live performance. Other people could give a fuck what a band sounds like live...they just want to hear the songs exactly as they are heard on the album. Then there are people who have no interest in seeing bands play live at all. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

I think we can blame Mtv and the like for bands being liked for their image... Music is supposed to be an art form of sound, not sight... the music is supposed to give the listener their own interpretation of what the music looks like, and a video clip destroys that vision and says "this is the vision that you must imagine when hearing this song", and there is no fun in that... people who rely totally on their music videos are people like Snoop Dogg and the like who just chuck in lots of barely-clothed women to entice horny teens to like their music... this is a reason why people like Jeff Buckley and Pearl Jam never enjoyed and most of the time avoided making videos...

Wow, this thread got heated! I saw only now that there's a Blur thread and just wanted to say I like them! They're not one of my favorite bands but they have some really cool songs, I don't know their titles to tell which ones exactly. I didn't read everything you guys wrote but just wanted to say Beatles ROCK!!! This is my opinion of course The White Album is one of my favorite albums! Such a cool music! In the beginning I knew only their early songs and at first I liked them but then I found them a little silly. But when I heard the White album! Wow!!! I got a whole other opinion about The Beatles! Love them!
