Does anyone in here listen to Damien Rice? I don't know anybody in my part of the country who knows who he is...he is worth checking out. He's very big in Europe, especially Ireland (where he's from). He had a video that was played on VH1 a couple years ago for a song called "Volcano" and his song "The Blower's Daughter" has been used in a lot of t.v. shows and movies...the Jude Law movie "Closer" prominentely featured the song. I think any Melonhead should definitely give him a chance...when I first started listening to him my first impression of his voice was that it had sort of a Shannon quality to it. He is an incredible songwriter...his songs are mostly moody and intense...very dynamic in the way that a song can start out very quiet and build up to something very powerful. He does a lot of looping of effects in his live shows in order to achieve the same build-up. The live show I saw was INTENSE! His album "O" is mostly on the acoustic side, but when you see him live he rocks out a lot more. A girl name Lisa Hannigan sings with him and she has the most hauntingly beautiful voice...it's easy to get into her singing at first and then Damien's voice sort of grows on you (in a good way). Lisa Hannigan's voice literally gives me goosebumps when I listen to her...she is the tiniest cutest girl and this voice comes out of her with the wisdom and beauty of a hundred year old soul. Damien will be touring the states with Fiona Apple this summer for most of her tour dates. I don't know if Lisa Hannigan will be with him on tour this time. Unfortunately he leaves the tour right before he gets to my part of the country so I'm considering flying to Chicago so I can take my cousin who lives there to the show. It is worth the trip! Damien is from Ireland so he hasn't been to the states yet a lot. He did a tour a couple years ago and I was able to catch him at Bonnaroo in 2004 (he was the best act there in my opinion...but I'm biased cuz I already liked him). So anyway...if you haven't already checked him out you should. If you want any recommendations of where to start I can hook you up with the info. I have a lot of video footage uploaded to my myspace page that I've been collecting online for the past few years and I have tons of audio to trade if anyone is interested. If you get the opportunity to check out the Fiona Apple summer tour, make sure you don't miss Damien Rice...it will be well worth it! I promise! If you listen to him and like what you hear or if you are already a fan of his music let me know...

I don't know about Ireland but he's not that big in the rest of the UK, I haven't even heard his name in two years.

Probably because he hasn't been touring or released anything in awhile. I'm pretty sure he's sold a lot of albums there. Do you listen to him?

I love Damien Rice, some very good acoustic music. I bought 'O' two months ago, and was blown away. I just wish he'd release more music.

No I don't listen to him. I just don't think he's that big, I'm not saying he's bad but the last time I heard anything of him was two years ago when there were a few adverts for 'O'.

I love him too, and I didn't realize he was going to be touring with Fiona... I have toying with the idea of getting tickets for this summer. Guess I'd better decide before it's too late! That would be amazing.

I guess maybe what I should say is that he's a lot bigger in Europe than he is in the U.S. He's toured a lot more extensively there. I don't live in Europe so I don't speak from knowing firsthand...all I know is that judging by the online community there are a lot of fans on your side of the Atlantic. When I look him up on Ebay most of the stuff I find is from overseas.

Well I'd expect that since he's from Ireland, I'm jsut saying he's probably not as big as you think. From the couple of songs I've heard he seems pretty good.

I'm really hoping that part of the reason he's doing this American tour with Fiona Apple is because he's got a new album coming out. It would only make sense since he's been laying low for the past couple years. From all of his live shows I've downloaded, I've noticed that he has at least 2 albums worth of new songs that he could be releasing. I don't know what the hold up is but he need to go ahead and release something.
