I second guessed my posting of this. But I thought, well, I never claimed to be a macho man in the first place and I feel I'm amongst like minds here so...
I loaded up my 6 disc changer cartridge for my car cd player with the first three Blind Melon albums. The moment Shannon's voice hit me on Soak The Sin I lost it. I was crying so hard that I almost had to pull off the road because I couldn't see. And, apparently I'm a glutton for punishment because I just kept listening. And melting down. And just typing this is getting me worked up again. I'm at work, so I suppose I should occupy my mind with something else right quick.
Once I got to the parking lot at work and Time finished up, I had to smile, just knowing that there's more to come.
Having grown up not far from Lafeyette and being just 3 months younger than Shannon, I always felt a kinship there. I guess I've still not gotten over him being gone. 12 years later. Goddamn I miss Shannon.

It is understandable. I think we all understand and agree with you. Sometimes it is very hard to deal with the fact that Shannon is not here. Your family of melons is here for you!

I think everyone who was touched by Shannon still grieves in different ways. His death truly is a tragedy. You aren't alone in your feelings about it and you are right that you're in the presence of like minded people. I think being able to talk about it helps people come to peace with it (at least it has helped me to talk about it with people who understand).

Yes, Sonya, it did take a load off me to write about it. But, writing always does. It never hurts to take whatevers tying my mind up and get it on paper (or screen) in front of me so I can see it from a different perspective.

I absolutely agree that writing can be one of the best ways to release feelings built up inside of you, even if nobody ever reads it but you.

During my 1st smoke break I went out to the car and started up Soup. I then remembered the hidden track at the beginning. I've only listened to it once before and forgot what it sounded like. Listening just now I realized that what Shannon was singing was backwards. Anyone know what he's saying here?

Oh Hon, if I had a dollar for every time in the last almost 12 years that I have had a meltdown over Shannon's death I'd be rich! My husband seriously thinks I'm a little nutty feeling like I do and so I have to hide it. Thank God we have a family of Melon friends that understand how it feels to be us. We are all the bee girl, ostrisized (sp?) for whatever reason, hurting, alone, vulnerable. I realized this at my first vigil. They were the rose strewn gates opening to my people! This board has been very much the same for me. Makes that video quite prophetic....God DAMN I miss Shannon!
