Greg and I have become obsessed with The Avett Brothers this week and we just realized that one of their songs mentions Shannon in the lyrics ...it totally caught us off guard! If anyone is interested in hearing it, send me a PM. I don't want to post a public link to a song from an official release. Check out the lyrics... Smoke in our Lights
You're not a girl, you're a town You're snow on the ground, you're my first year in school You're the words in a song that Shannon Hoon sang to me And all around my memories, you dance
You're not a girl, you're a car You're a red Trans Am, you're 90 miles an hour We'd never get caught cause there's no cops around And no roads like this, downtown
Why'd we have to change, it all seems so fine (Fine) we'll go our own ways We're both asking Why'd we have to change, it all seems so fine (Fine) we'll go our own ways We're both asking, why
You're not a girl, you're the night of the homecoming game You're the voice in my head, just begging me to stay You're the smoke in our lights, as we sped away To worship the sunlight on the graves
You're not a girl, you're a waltz You're a canopy bed, you're June till August You're the back and forth sway, of the hammock all day When I asked you, what did you say
Why'd we have to change, it all seems so fine (Fine) we'll go our own ways We're both asking Why'd we have to change, it all seems so fine (Fine) we'll go our own ways We're both asking, why I think it's so fucking cool that this band we're just getting into gives an unexpected shout out to Shannon!

;D I'm so glad you like them! If you can you should try to go to the show in Alexandria on Friday. Here's the venue's website: www.birchmere.com/I'm going to start an Avett appreciation thread in Tones Of Home so Greg and I can post our pics and stuff from yesterday's in-store performance.

A guy who was in a band called Nemo with Scott Avett prior to The Avett Bros. just said this in The Avett Bros. forum in regards to Blind Melon's influence on their music:
"Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon were a big influence on all of us in Nemo. Scott has always been influenced by Shannon as a vocalist and songwriter especially. We definitely lost a great one when he passed, along with numerous others."

It is always so great to hear bands giving a shout out for Shannon & how he influenced them.Even if I don't particually like the music,I still get a kick out of it.I feel good about the fact that Shannon continues to have an influence in the world, musically & in other ways. ..Melons,We Are Gonna Take Over The World!...
