I think it would be on his back (just by the way it looks) I'm not even so sure he had it. The article said he longs for a tat called "the Healer". Can anyone confirm this? Also the article quoted Shannon saying that his 1st symbolized Christmas and his family getting together. Which one would he be speaking of...Any ideas? I have never seen the one on the back of his calf. One day I'll be brave a get a tat.... I just change my mind way to often of what I'd get. Maybe @ Vigil I can get a tat

Hello Melon friends, Well the tattoo in the middle I believe is actually the painting called "The Healer" by Betty LeDuke. I do not believe that Shannon ever did get this tattoo, (contrary to what bobafett might believe), but from seeing the Jesus tattoo on Shannons ankle, there is that grey area of doubt, because from seeing the tattoo above Shannon's fish tattoo you just never know. Even your die hard fan may not know quite for sure how many Shannon actually did have, and how many were in the works, or in the beginning stages. I would have to say though that "the Healer" tattoo quite possibly could have been Shannon's first choice for going on his back. My reasoning for this is as follows: when Shannon first moved out to L.A. he got stabbed in the back (literally), and so he got it covered up with some "unknown tattoo". A tattoo with the name "The Healer" could have definetly had some deep resonance with Shannon (for the reason that he was a guy who got tattoos which for the most part had some meaning to his life and his spirit of being). In regards to Melonfreaks question that he got a tattoo to symbolize Christmas, Here is a video in which Shannon explains many of his tattoos. I personally though that most of his tattoos he got were when he moved out to L.A. Though I wonder how many David Sucer, (the tattoo artist from Indiana) did. I am of course assuming that Shannon's first tattoos were done by him.
I am going to do some more research into these tattoo places, and into the work of Dave Sucer As for melonfreak, Speaking from somebody who has a few tattoos, and more to come. These are the three things that you should follow when getting a tattoo. (1) Deeper MeaningMake sure the tattoo has meaning, resonance, and deep personal and/or spiritual relationship to you. This involves everything that goes in to it. From the type of ink used, to the size, shape, detail, and of course whatever image you get I always relate tattoos to music in that over time they can either be ever lasting and classic, or they can fade with time. Being a fan Shannon you already know the concept of great tattoos. 2) Explore your visions:Carefully think out the image, making sure you have explored the all different techniques, styles that you can take it. What I mean by this is by not having ideas set in stone, explore all the ideas that you have to make it go above, and beyond your "every other tattoo"(and make sure you have a tattoo artist who isn't limiting your ideas because he can't do it) I have come to learn that many people over time feel ashamed, and especially us in "the western culture" we are supposed to hide our tattoos. Regardless of all that if you get a good looking tattoo that contains all the above mentioned criteria you will be satisfied, and not ashamed (3) Tattoo Artist w/ Experience, Knowledge, and Expertise This is the most important from all of these, because a tattoo artist who has all of these criteria is usually more capable that someone with less experience, . I guess I am taking this in to detail, and I guess I should explain my discretions for the inexperienced tattoo artist, but really it comes down to this: If you want a tattoo such as Shannon's wrist tattoo, this takes a lot of time, patience, and talent from your artist, and so going for someone with experience is worth it. However, my brother does disagree with this, (and since he is a phenomenal artist; beyond tattooing) there is exceptions in that there is inexperienced tattoo artists out there who can do this type of tattoo , though this relates towhat type of personality this person has, and if they are willing to push the envelope. Of course maybe you are not anylitical, and the detail you pursue is minimal then the tattoo artists talent is not "as" important Personally I stopped getting tattoos at parlours just for the very fact that you will get some tattoo artist that won't do a particular image because he/ she is protecting there "so called" artistic credibility (by not copying somebodys image) which really translates into they can't do it. Stay away from this person, and further don't put a good word in for these type of people, because these so artists are working in the shops that charge $175/hour and they can't do a particular tattoo is ______ (you can fill it in with your own obsenity

Hi Hightimes, I was just guessing about the one on his back. I have no idea more than anyone else. It also kind of looks like a hindu god sort of illustration. Kind of like the cover of Axis: Bold as Love, maybe. who knows? I enjoyed reading your guidelines on what to think about when getting a tattoo. Good stuff! #thumb#

That's alot of info !!! Thanks Hightimes for letting me in on Tattoo 101 (lol) No seriously I know what you are saying but I don't think anyone in my area is that great of an artist. You know what I mean when I say, they do the same tat for everyone. Once it's there it's there. I do have some things that I want and wouldn't change ( I would like to have my 1st husbands initials, birth year and death year) I have some more things in mind but unfortunately I'm not at all an artist so it's hard for me to show someone what I want. I am not the butterfly or character type.(no offense to anyone with these) I totally agree with "your feeling" for your tat. I have another ?? for you (if you don't mind) Are you going to be at vigil??I would love to talk further with you in person about this. Thanks for all your wonderful info and passing the vid along. I'll def vote for you for October melon of the month...... #thumb#

Hi All Melons, In response to your question unfortunately Melonfreak I am not going to be at the Vigil this year. However, some things I can pass on are. First of all if you are like me and have attention to detail, and the tattoo is going to have that internal relationship (which it must have since you are getting your first husbands initial) to yourself. Don't look in popular tattoo magazines because you are never going to get anything authentic, or original. The fact of the matter is that these are tattoos already on other people, and the tattoo artists that are doing them are doing someones elses work to start off with. Nontheless, there is certainly people that do get ideas from these magazines. Secondly since you now have disregarded the mainstream tattoos. Look into what culture you are interested in. The Polynesian, Hawaiian, Native cultures have an amazing amount of tattooing history. The fact of the matter is that nothing, (and I am speaking from having a little knowledge in this area), nothing really in the tattoo world has become new, and original. Most of the ideas are from the same images used over and over again with for the most part new adaptions. Which leads me to my third source. Look into paintings, drawings, this is another area where you can find some intriguing stuff. Hope this helps
