Wow, is this a melon telepathy or what! I just thought about this a few days ago: that I've never seen a book about Blind Melon and I imagine there isn't any (if there is, tell me - I want it!) So anyway, this isn't cool of course. A band like this!!! So I thought it would be cool if we, the fans made it... I know that for example Phish fans did that, and I think not only one book about Phish...they edited a book with aritcles of fans for example, who wrote on their impressions on concerts and stuff like this...well, I don't know the details really, but I think you got the idea...we could write something together...then I don't know how it all goes with the edition, the rights and all that... But I'd love to see a book about the whole band, not only Shannon cause I think the way they were and worked together, the "match" of those five people is just magic! I have ALL respect for Shannon of course but it still was a band and we all know it's the way they were seeing it too. I like this quote from Brad:
"I think each of us alone is nothing compared to what we are collectively as a band. It's like everybody puts in their two cents and we get ten bucks." Brad
I think this is one of the things that makes Blind Melon just magic for me. Sorry, I got a little off topic...
Anyway, I'd love to see a biography of Shannon too, of course ;D Why not make both of them, hehe...

P.S......there's A LOT of info about Shannon and Blind Melon that is spread all over the web....maybe a book could be all those infos gathered in ONE place, if people who have those web sites wouldn't mind if we use them...logicaly not...they're all melonheads and one of the things melonheads love to do, is spreading melon, right?! Then we'd have to see how it goes with the photos and copyrights....is all this complicated? It would be so amazing to have all this in one place, on paper, something you can keep and open whenever you feel like it....

would be an amazing bunch o books but i think this topic should go in the "everyone get together and love on another now" thread, cuz im thinking maybe we could all get our heads together on the idea this year, to make a book of our stories....for next year, then we could just sell it back to everyone at the vigil, so we all get a book just full of everyones stories...what do you think? cuz im sure not all of us melonheads read them online, would be nice to put together a book full of melonhead stories.... and im not sure all melonheads that go to the vigil even get a chance to be online as much as some of us anyway, so it might be nice for them to just have a book full of melons stories. i love reading peoples stories and i think this book idea is so brilliant. but i dont know if it would aactually "sell" would be better to sell it at the vigil

I have just started to read the many magazine articles that i have collected over the last six months on Blind Melon, and it turns out Shannon was a huge Rolling Stones fan... Also he absolutely loved Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd, as well as the Beatles... In one article he says his favourite music tastes change constantly over time, but at this stage his top 5 albums of all time were -
1. Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers 2. Syd Barrett - Opel 3. Carole King - Tapestry (Nel is a big Carole King fan, and used to clean the house to this record, so Shannon likes the deja-vu associated with the happy memories of this music) 4. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street 5. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
He also was just getting into Tom Waits at the time... I guess it was around 92/93/94, cause in the picture Shannon still has long hair...
There is one part of the interview that really shines out though and really sums up Shannon's personality... When asked "What was the first album you bought?" He responded -
"I cant remember, cause I got so many. I used to write off to the Columbia House Record And Tape Club, where you send in a penny and you get like 12 albums back. You agree to buy eight albums or something over the next two years at their club prices, so they eventually make their money back on the albums that you are obliged to buy. And I just started filling out these things under false names and hoping that they didnt pick up that it was all the same address! So every now and then you would get like a box of records at your front door - or three boxes on the same day! But i was only 14 years old, so i didnt have to abide by the contract."

You sure they were a GnR cover band? I heard that aswel, I've read it in more than one place yeah i'm pretty sure i've read that somewhere but i can't find it but i found a site (off tones of home) that says Shannon was in a GnR cover band before before Styff Kitten...so styff kitten wasn't the cover band...http://www.blindmelon.org/melon/shannonhoon.htm but i remember reading on a site, i guess not this one but i coulda swore it was, that shannon was playing for styff kitten and they were doing a cover of "don't cry" long before it came out on the use your illusions from some gnr bootlegs that were going around. one of the gnr members, maybe izzy or something (i'm pretty sure it wasn't axl or slash i would've remembered that) saw shannon perform, heard him sing, and told axl what a badass he was
