The Angel by Nel Hoon
I was browsing in a thrift store, a quaint and crowded little shop. There was not much here I was thinking when a porcelain figure made me stop. It was an angel kneeling on a sphere, its eyes cast down to earth. Nice piece of art I thought, I asked the storekeeper of its worth. It's a bargain he said "ten dollars buys the thing, I'd get much more you see, but it's got a broken wing." The broken wing was not concern to me at all, it showed that sometimes even angels fall. The angel made me think of my son Shannon, could it be perhaps a sign, to tell me he's in heaven and everything is fine. When mothers grieve they tend to leave reality behind, so my eyes and ears stay on the alter looking for some sign. When the angels get together, and the choir begins to sing, the angel with the high voice may have a broken wing.

BEE-A-U-TIFUL.Beautiful.How comforting, moving,so true it seems to fit like a warm glove,as does Shannons Voice/Music,ya know.Shannon is still so much a part of this World,a part of all of us,though he has passed, does that make his Spirit so much more,Powerful? To be a part of everything, all at the same time is the only way I can describe it.I too have lost a Son,Brandon, after 8 1/2 months in the Womb he died, and we had to deliver him knowing he had passed. He was perfectly developed,in every way, nothing wrong with him,we said goodbye and he has a beautiful headstone in our family plot at the cemetary, but he is a wonderful Angel,a part of everything at the same time,Ya know,an influence somehow on the World to this day.Nel,we will keep Celebrating Shannons Life, Everyday we need it!So please don't worry that you might be alone in wanting to make sure he is not forgotten.I don't wear shoes, for more than about a Few Hours at a time in Honor of Shannon & I work in a factory,so I actually have someone from the Quality Room cover/Concentrate on my Lines while I stretch my toes out in the parking lot for a while.I can get away with it,I tell them it's big picture time, which is Very important for Leaders to have a big picture,I can get the big picture back in a few deep breaths, actually, but I take 6 or 7 minutes to take my steel toes off, anyway, everyone knows I'll be walking around the parking lot, barefoot, then sitting on a curb, with no shoes on.I hope I'm not Tripping Out Too Much, like a Freak Out! or Something & not making sense, but I don't think so.I-I-I-I-Gotta Go!& it's gonna be ,A Bright Blue Saturday!Luv to Ya! 118 bucks is gonna get me to Lafayette fom here and back on a Greyhound now.

that was a wonderful poem and it is a testament to the sheer strenght of the lady to be able to read it out to so many strangers( but really we are far from strangers) let alone to even be able to have the courage to sit down and open your heart and face the grief of losing your own son and write something like that down. I lost both of my parents in car wrecks when i was just barely a teenager and shannons voice certainly helped me deal (people who don't know shannon just don't get it do they?) with a horrible part of my life. hearing about everyone and there vigil stories makes me so happy and really does lift me (get it?) nell, that was simply a lovely poem and thank you for sharing it. ;D

I was at the Vigil when Nell started to recite the poem...as soon as I heard her voice, that big lump welled up in my throat...and when she began to cry, I just couldn't mantain any longer. I think that she is a great woman for allowing all of us to share in this time of grieving and celebration!!! Out of this tremendous lose...we have all gained something....well, I definately have anyways.....I have gained a sense of MYSELF....I have met some of the most wonderful people in the world....Its like being HOME (ya know?) 8807.....I am so sorry for your lose! But when you said that he is apart of Everything at the same time, and still an influence on the world to this day...it just gave me chills...and yes I am crying!! #signs037#

Awww that IS such a touching poem... Nel also read it at Vigilstock didnt she? Or am I going crazy?
Straycat, oh they'll never get it! But we do, and thats what really matters right? Shannons music is like medicine for the soul, it helps you heal, makes all the pain go away... Even if for just a few minutes... How many people you know that actually have that power? Not many... Sorry about your loss, Im sure losing your folks at a young age was tough but Im glad you are one of the few that GET IT... Right on bro
8807, sorry to hear about your loss as well.. Oh and I totally agree, for as long as we live Nel will never celebrate Shannons birthday alone! Rock on my dears!

I just checked this out, I have seen this poem she wrote before, and it was wonderful to revisit it.
I love that she was able to see the beauty in looking at things from the WHOLE. "......Even angels fall sometime". ~The Angel
A tender way to find forgiveness for the not so perfect things we do, or even things that others do, and to simply see the angel inside.. of us all!
Another way to be reminded that we are "all perfect just the way we are" .... be proud of broken wings!
I read through each of your posts. Finding strength to get through the innevitable tough times is really hard! Kinda feels like a test or something, know what I mean? Rock on melons, and lets keep seeing the angel in each of us... in Shannon! "...and it's what they can't see". ~ Tones of Home
Hugs~ #heart#
