What do you think Blind Melon needs to do to take mainstream music by storm? I know most of us could care a less what mainstream music thinks but the fact is it is the machine that will keep the tunes coming. UT was a great band but they never struck the chord to keep the machine going. Out of the songs you've heard which one do you think would have the most mass appeal? While I appreciate the folkie little ditties I just can't hear them on mainstream radio. I think their heavier rock sound would cut through much better. My personal choice would be Harmful Belly.
What do you all think?

First of all, I hope Blind Melon doesn't become mainstream. I hope they stay at a steady successful level in the underground. Enough that they can make decent money and tour decent size smaller venues and make regular rounds at festivals.
That being said, I think that the only logical way for a band to become mainstream nowadays is to have the support of a major record label, mtv, and clear channel. Since it looks like they aren't wanting to go in the direction of major label representation, they likely won't become mainstream in the way they were in the days of "No Rain".
I think For My Friends has the most potential to be a "No Rain" #2. Maybe "Sometimes" as well.
I think Harmful Belly, Wishing Well, or Hypnotized would be a hit on Alternative Radio.
I think Make a Difference or Right Set of Eyes would be a hit on Rock Radio.
Just think...which songs could you realistically hear while your walking down the aisle of your local grocery store or shopping in the big department store in your mall. Whatever song that is, is going to be the mainstream song.

If they could gain a good-sized cult following, like some jam bands, they wouldn't have to put up with mainstream bull shit. Blind Melon definitely has a decent sized cult following of fans for Shannon era Blind Melon, so I think if a good portion of those people take a liking to Travis they would be well on their way. I think that If their live shows are highly acclaimed, the word will get around. Doing it this way they would never become hugely popular, but it would defintiely motivate them to keep touring and putting out new material.

yeah I think they would do really good through the jmabandey type scene, so popular but not really mainstream, ala mule, the black crowes, spearhead......doing festivals and stuff like that, would be a wonderful addition to a scene I think is sorta hurtin for originality and the boys got it in buckets
as far as radio, mainstream is dead, atellite is the new way, and i can DEFINATLEY hear these song all over sirius, and prob would get a whole bunch of far stretched audience esp this early on
