Hi there! I've been on this forum before but I've never created a username until now. My real name is Molly. What has brought me here so many times is looking for unreleased and rare stuff. I absolutely love it when I find some Melon that I've never heard before.
I got into Blind Melon because my older sister was listening to them. I asked her who the band was and I needed more! I think that I was in middle school when I first started listening to Melon. My sister and I are pretty similar. Shannon Hoon is to me as Kurt Cobain is to her. We've both developed (possibly) unhealthy obsessions with our chosen singers. I'm an art student right now, aspiring to become an art teacher. Since I love art, I've done three portraits of Shannon.
Recently, they released the 20th anniversary edition of Blind Melon's first album. I really wanted it on vinyl, so I preordered it on amazon. I waited several months and finally, I got a message saying that the item is no longer available. Needless to say, I was relatively pissed off. I got the cd edition, but I started looking around online for vinyl copies that were at least $80 or under. I really would have spent over $100 for it, but I couldn't... being a poor college kid, I could not afford it. I lucked out hard core, though. My roommate and I went to a used cd (and other media) store a few weeks ago. Just out of curiosity, I decided to look through their vinyls... and it was there! I finally found a vinyl copy! Not only that, but it was only $24! I grabbed it and ran to the cashier. I was so excited that I was shaking! I literally thought that I would never be able to get a vinyl copy for under $100. I really wish the vinyls weren't so expensive. One of these days, I'm going to get an original copy of their self-titled album and Soup (and Nico if vinyls of that even exist).
I've never been able to make it to Shannon's grave, unfortunately. I really wanted to print out a copy of one of my portraits and leave it there. I have gotten my artwork there, thanks to my boss. My dear friend and boss was going to Indiana and she said she may be able to put my drawing at his grave. She sent me a picture when she got there of my drawing, tied to a piece of lavender and a note on his grave.One of these days, I am going to make it to Shannon's vigil.
My drawing is the one right under the statue on the left. My boss has the original drawing and a smaller photocopy of it sitting there; that's why there's two. She left the photocopy and returned my original.
