Ryan told me about this item. www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330680321657&ssPageName=ADME:B:ONA:US:3160I did a little research, and it's legit. It's actually pretty incredible.. If it is how Brad describes it, it's not a playable record. But, not sure about that... My maximum bid has already been exceeded. So - if anyone here is bidding on it, good luck! And before you attempt to play it, you might want to do some research, or you'll damage your needle and the record as well.

Couldn't this be where the Sippin' Time EP mp3's came from that surfaced a few years ago? This has appeared on eBay before.

I just put a $250 bid on this. I'm willing to go up way more than that to acquire this, but it kind of worries me that you said it is not a playable record. Can anybody confirm that? Because to listen to it just once or twice would BLOW MY FUCKING MIND!!! I am willing to go BIG for this one because a) I'm a huge record collector anyway and b) this is Melon gold!! I wonder if there's anyway to confirm it being playable??

This is very cooool! I would strongly read this carefully before listening to this.... it sounds like it is essentially a "master" disc only designed to be listened to 5-6 times b4 the quality is pretty much gone. Still an Amazing find! Wonder if any of the Members would be interested... www.madonnacatalog.com/guides/acetate.htm

OK, so I'm having mixed feelings about this now. I feel like I'm getting conflicting reports aobut this thing... the guy emailed me and told me "it will absolutely play on a regular record player" but that it would warp/ruin the record after listening to it a few times. I'm not interested in purchasing it really to listen to it anyway but I'm just curious is it playable or not? Like for even one spin? Or will it ruin a record player to even attempt to play it?
I have all these songs in MP3 anyway. I guess I should not even try to get it because it would probably do someone like Brad a lot more good than it would me. I'm just pissed that a) this is not available on vinyl anyway and b) why is it so hard for Capitol to release all the stuff they have sitting in the vaults? This is obviously stuff people like us have a lot of interest in and they continue to release shit product after shit product of all these bands/artists that no one cares about but they refuse to release the archived material of Blind Melon. It's just bullshit. To just hear 'Mother' on vinyl would blow my mind and I would LOVE to just hear it once... but if it's going to ruin my record player I want no part in it. Can ANYONE confirm one way or the other if this will do that? I'm just feeling really sketchy about it right now.

Well, it won't destroy the entire record player, but it most likely will destroy the needle (and the damage done). Additionally, the record-acetate itself will be ruined after a few plays.
And I think the band had part in the decision that decided that the Sippin' Time Sessions was not a good representation of the band. The band (and possibly Capitol) thought that it sounded too produced and slick.
But don't get me wrong - I'd buy the STS if Capitol eventually released it. I hear ya!

I am pretty sure its legit.. That is a master Lacquer disk. The coating on the plate is NOT vinyl, It is the master copy that should be metalized to make the plates that press the vinyl. I am pretty sure you could play this, but it is NOT made for repeated playing. The material that the lathe cuts when making this disk is soft. So it gets damaged with each playing and the the needle runs a risk of getting gummed up. Its likely that this is a Copy or test cut directly from the cutting lathe.... Who ever gets this I would recommend NOT playing it! I would frame it and keep it as a collectors item. Brad Smith

I hear you Brad and although I already put a bid on it (and I'm currently the high bidder) I'm not going to pursue it if it goes up anymore. It would be very cool to own as a collector's item but I don't even want to run the risk of ruining the record or my needle by playing it. If I win this I would just keep it as a collectible but honestly I'm sort of hoping I get outbid on it now. I really wish this were available on vinyl that could actually be played... anyway, if I win it'll be cool just to have it as a piece and if not I'm OK with that too.
Thanks for the info!!
And btw I pre-ordered Abandon Jalopy - Death & Joy on vinyl!!! I wanna make sure my needle works for that!!!
