Before I became a Melonhead, I was a HUGE Warrant fan. Not ashamed to admit it. In fact, I've probably seen Warrant live more than any other band.
Last night felt like deja vu, felt like the night when I learned Shannon had died. I didn't have a "relationship" with Jani the way I did with Shannon although I had met Jani many, many times, had my photo taken with him, talked to him after shows, etc. etc.
In high school, Jani was my favorite singer. In college, Shannon was. It totally SUCKS that both passed away well before their time was up.
I'm betting most people on this board either don't know Warrant or don't like 'em - I can see how they are an easy band to hate, but they are the first band I ever wrote about (for my high school paper) and are as important part of my life as Blind Melon was. Fell in love for the first time in high school in large part due to Warrant. Went through a tough breakup (oh, the high school drama) and heard songs on Warrant's second album that I could totally relate to.
Bummer.

R.I.P. Jani Lane... Chip, seems Like I remember You Talking about How Big a Warrant Fan You were back in the days When You First Met Shannon. Didnt You Bump Into Jani At one of the Gigs where you and blind Melon were Togethor or Something of That Nature...My Memory Isnt quite clear, But it definately seems Like I remember Some type of Connection there between You all Being In The same Place or Something? Maybe I'm Crazy, Who Knows...

Good memory although it was Warrant guitarist, Joey Allen, not Jani Lane. It was the first time I ever saw/met Blind Melon. They were opening for Soundgarden. Joey was in town for a guitar show or something and he knew Soundgarden's manager or something (Joey told me this story YEARS later). Shannon and I were by the merch booth when Joey walked by. The Warrant fan in me was like "Holy shit, Joey Allen from Warrant is here!" but before I could say anything and/or be a fanboy and run over and ask for his autograph, Shannon leaned over to me and said something like "I hate the fucking band. You can't escape them in L.A." so I kept my mouth shut
