I put this up in the All That I Need section as a download for those that wanted to save it. But here's the YouTube link I upped it the other day if you want to watch it:
It's from the Mexico City DVD as a bonus feature... very cool (and funny) interview + a live performance of No Rain. I'd seen the No Rain performance before but never saw the interview until I got it off the DVD.
Love how Shannon has to fuck with everybody who interviews him. He tells Kennedy that he's from Seattle ... lol

Cool interview to watch. Shannon is a bit of a dick though in the interview I thought.

Most of the time especially during Interviews, there's a lot of things we don't know, going on behind the scenes & private jokes we obviously wouldn't know. So to judge someone on only a small glimpse into a situation, wouldn't really be fair. Since Shannon's first name is Richard, I choose to believe, your choice of the word, "Dick' is being used as a nickname, Mr {grumpin} ;D I'm with you as far as the cool interview.

In almost ever interview I have seen with Shannon he is being a "dick", I think smart ass is a better term for it. Most interviewers are idiots and deserve it.

Yes allthatineeded, you hit the nail, right on the head. That's perfect, smart ass is a great term. It really does seem that most interviewers Do Not do they're homework, which is definitely one of the reason's why, they deserve to get their chops busted.

AWESOME CLIP!
Also, I don't understand why being a great musician and songwriter excludes Shannon from being an asshole. From reading the book and other interviews, I've gathered that Shannon could be quite the asshole at times. This doesn't take away from his legacy as a singer, musician, songwriter. I guess I don't understand how some people have put him on this pedestal as an all around great guy. Regardless, he is my favorite singer and songwriter ever and the most underrated musician of all time in my opinion!

Well said Matt . I don't care how many people say something, I Do Not Judge anyone on Hear Say. Wayne Dyer says it Best: When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.

Haven't watched the video posted here yet but here's my take - early on, people wanted to talk to him not because of Blind Melon but because he sang on a Guns N' Roses album and was in the "Don't Cry" video. Heck, the first time I interviewed I asked him about that (and it was one of the first interviews I had ever done). I think he said that he didn't really want to talk about GN'R but did want to promote Blind Melon. That was cool with me. But, I know there's a conference call interview that I participated in that has made the rounds on the web in which a bunch of college journalists were on the line. And you can tell Shannon's clearly agitated with the girl who won't stop asking about Guns N' Roses. Thing is, I think once you were "in" with Shannon, it was real. The "after show" Shannon Hoon was one of the nicest people I ever met and one of the easiest guys to hang out with. I'm sure his bandmates might disagree I remember about their show in Cleveland opening for Soundgarden (about a year before the debut came out), Shannon and I were sitting around trading stories about serial killers and Shannon was like "Gotta protect the voice, can't carry out equipment to the van. I'll make the rest of the guys do it, I'm the singer." But he said it with a big smile - he wasn't being a dick, he was just being Shannon. So, my thinking is that Shannon felt out those who were interviewing him and he decided pretty quickly whether or not he trusted them. If he didn't, you'd get the "surly" Shannon and there was really no way to fix that.

Wow Chip, What an Amazing Story! Thank You so much for sharing that. I remember hearing an Interview with Chip Midnight, so I don't know if that would be you or not, most likely it is. So I say to you, I think your an really Great Interviewer & I totally enjoy, your down to earth skills & talent in bringing out "The Real" in people.. The conversation went in Great length about Charles Manson & The Black Dahlia Murder etc. By the end of the Conversation, Shannon was gonna privately make the plans to hang out & Jam with Blind Melon at a College Party or something to that effect. It thought it was so Incredible, it was a Great Interview & Shannon really shined as an extremely Personable & Awesome conversationalist. He also was, warm & friendly and it gave me, a feel good vibe, wishing I had, had that conversation with him. He was definitely, the type of person, I would have felt Proud & Honored to have been able to call...Friend. I love your summation on this topic. It's just Perfect. Peace &, Happiness, to you, Lisa

Well, YouTube took the video down. They are being really strict now about any Viacom (MTV) related clips. They also took down my Blind Melon "Galaxie" on Beavis & Butthead clip I put up months ago. I closed down my account since they deleted all my vids anyway. You can still d/l this cool clip in the All that I need section if you want it.

I would never try to assist someone in breaking copyright law. . .
however, when uploading something to YouTube that is in question, do not label it as MTV, SNL, or anything else that YouTube searches for right off the bat. If you label it as a rare interview clip without any reference to MTV, the YouTube people (or the YouTube computers) will have a much more difficult time finding your video and figuring out where it came from, and thus who owns the rights. But if you tell them straight-away that it's an MTV clip, they probably have a filter set-up to flag any clip that a user uploads and labels as having been sourced from MTV.
Just a little hint. . . and again, I do not suggest that anyone behave in this clandestine manner. . .
