I am not looking to create any controversy, but I am curious to hear what others have to say on this subject. Ever since the Travis era started I have heard the term "magic" thrown around quite a bit, and I am sorry but I just don't get it. I must admit that I fell into this trap also, but I as time went on my opinion has changed a lot. I have been a BM fan since the beginning, even before "No Rain". So I was very excited to hear that the band was getting back together, and when I first heard Travis's music I thought that this can't miss. But when they released those first three songs I wasn't so sure, but I supported them anyway. To me the BM sound just wasn't there. What attracted me to BM in the first place, besides Shannon being Shannon, was the way that they were able to create a mellow/heavy vibe within the same song. I am not talking about loud/soft or fast/slow but about mood, feel and vibe. It's a sound that I have never heard before and never heard again until RFR. I must say that I am not a fan of FMF. I am not saying that I don't like any of the music, but overall I think the CD is pretty generic. As stated before, it just does not have that true BM vibe. Although I saw them 5 times live, I was never really impressed. So why did go so many times you ask? Wishful thinking I guess. Plus, I had never got to see them with Shannon and I wasn't going to let that chance slip by again. Some of the shows were kind of emotional and the crowd vibe was always great, but I must say that I was very disappointed at the show in Lafayette because when they said that they were going to play nothing but HOON tunes I was hoping to hear some stuff that I had not heard before like music from Nico. Enough on that. I have been kind of late getting on the RFR bandwagon, but I must say that I prefer Travis way more with RFR than I do with BM. I am not saying they sound like BM, but they are able to create that same mellow/heavy vibe that I love. Travis seems much more relaxed with RFR and I think he challenges his voice more with them also. I know this will never happen, but if there is a reunion to be had, I hope it is with RFR. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I think I'll go listen to "Blind Man". LOL
peace, Tim

The RFR Live at Malibu show has been in heavy rotation as of late. I cannot stop listening to it. It is/was an amazing show. Wish I could have seen that one for sure. Rocket Logic and A16 are freaking amazing. If this is the true (and in order) set list, what a opening twosome.
I think RFR and BM with Travis could have gone on to do a lot of good things. Sometimes things don't work out. As they say, better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all. Or something like that. As I said before, Travis is really talented. His stuff just resonates with me. Hope to hear some more in the future.
Oh and we still have BM to look forward to. Glen has me all excited that BM is still forging ahead!!!!

That is a good opening twosome, but then again the whole show rocks. Here's my feelings on the whole Travis/BM experience, it did not work out but if it never happened at all, I would have never been introduced to Travis' music. Here is something I always like to say, "You can always find a posative in the negative if you look for it."

Great way to look at it. At first it was difficult for me, but now I realize that I never would have listened to travis' music without hearing about him through Blind Melon. It was tough listening to For My Friends at first as well, but now I can go back and still enjoy it. I even have the Tour Poster and album autographed and proudly displayed in my apartment. I was a great couple of years and I will never forget the experiences I had!

Hey 3arman,no controversy Bro.There should always be Blind Melon purists in the World. To me,it shows a respect for Shannon & the Unity of Blind Melon that will always exist.

Travis is my favorite artist of all time, thanks to the exposure from Melon. I'd never have found him otherwise. Being 20 (21 the 13th), I missed the Shannon boat, and never got to see TTW Melon live but obviously hearing everything I possibly could find, I love it all. I prefer Travis's solo/ other band stuff more than I do with Melon, but not because it's bad in anyway or because it doesn't feel "Melony" because it does to me. But regardless, we live in a world with both Shannon and Travis's music, so we can all do a little dance in our bee costumes for that
