i would guess drugs and age had something to do with it. Well certain drugs can do that to a voice, deepen it and make it ruff. I'd agree with that. Still such a unique voice. I love Shannon.

Hello to all of you, I haven't been here in ages and I should not be here either but I've been in this BM mood for a few days now...Sometimes it just hits and all I can listen to is them..I guess it has to do with the Spring too! There is so much emotion in his voice and it really gets to me, inside! It moves me at that is what counts, to me anyway. You hear many good voices (the Celin Dion kind of even Andrea Bocelli) but they don't do it for me, I can appreciate but I don't get shivers...When I hear his voice I hear something that comes from deep inside of him, his way of expressing himself, of painting it. It's not that perfect, clean voice, it's very HIS and that's what I love about it. I also dig his speaking voice and his lil smiles and laughs...And the way he sang was just unique, kind of off the melody, in between, unpredictable. Every time I listen to a song I discover something new so Blind Melon stays very much fresh for me (I admit also that I have only been a serious fan for say 3 years now). The only bad thing about his voice is that it's too high at times and I can't reach it so I can't sing along (without pulling disgusting faces and getting a vein popping out on the side of my throat, and it still sounds shit!) In a way it reminds me of Janis Joplin's voice, it carries the same tragedy it in and just GETS to you! Sorry for the poor explanation, I hope you get what I was trying to say!
