Hi all, Hopefully I will be driving by the time the next Vigil rolls around. I was just wondering about the general area of the cemetery and where ever else people will be meeting. (I sent Nel a message a while ago to say "Hi" and such, and asked her about the area too. But I just want to double check with other people too. How is the area and restroom facility set up. I would love to make the drive up there next year, and since I am in Ohio it shouldnt take too long to make the trip. I just wanted to know how easily one in a weelchair could navigate the area, and how facilities around the area are set up. This also includes anywhere else people tend to meet up or go to hang out.
Thanks,I really appreciate it.

Hi resiak,
As far as restrooms go there was one port a potty at the Vigil. In the general area of the cemetery I don't think you would have too much of a problem getting around. There is a gravel type road going pretty much right up to Shannon.

Hey Resiak!
This yr was my first vigil and I do not know where else people tend to hang out - a bit at Nels I think but there are steps there - even up into the yard....mainly at the cemetary which I think you could naviagate. The cemetary is a gravel road - crushed gravel and the grass is very flat and short - the tent is very close to the gravel road and there is room for you to park yourself n your chair under the tent over the grave - it's a huge tent. There are blanket down however but we can move those for you. I don't know how well you maneuver on gravel but it is not deep gravel - just a bit over a dirt road and all is quite flat. It seems to me you could do it. Is your wheel chair electric or are you self poweringit - if I am making any sense. You may need to put a little oomph into it but if I am there and you call me before you arrive - I can help you and I know others would as well. We can try to save you a place upfront parking wise - I believe there is actually a handicap parking spot.
The trouble is a bathroom- it's just a port a pottie and there is a step and no room. About a 7 min drive there is a big new grocery store as well as fast food places. I di dlots of food runs there so I bet you could just go there? Just dont' drink much! Ha! If you look at cemetary pix in this board and others - you will see the flatness and gravel road to judge for yourself - I posted a pix tonight that might help you - under vigil pix. Hope you can make it next year!!

the others have pretty much said the same as i would.
the only other things i'll add... theres a gas station within a couple minutes too that has restrooms.
and there are LOTS of people around that look out for, and are quick to jump in and help anyone in need. Everyone pretty much takes care of everyone else.
so ... i guess i'm just saying... i wouldnt miss the experience based on the couple of concerns you expressed. Sure, the issues might make it a bit more difficult, but you will have the time of your life.

Just like to know what to prepare for. lol As for the chair I have both a scooter (electric) and man-powered chair. So I may just stick the electric one in the back of the van I would likely be taking just in case. Thanks for reminding me. And as for porta potties, I've used them before in my chair, while at a few festivals, it all depends on thier size. lol But, it is good to know that the drive to food and other needs is a short one. I'll just have to make an extra trip and Drive past Nel's house so I can atleast see it. Again thanks, Hope to make it out there.
