I thought that this would be a nice thread to start but I wasn't sure where to put it. I was going to post it in sleepyhouse but it's technically not links to personal pages or blind melon related.. so I will post here. I wanted to start a thread where we could post links to different organizations/groups that help others whether it be charities, fundraisers/habitat for humanity..whatever. I like helping others out and I want to share info with you all as well as learn about more groups as well. Anything that someone has started that works towards a good cause.. post it up.

This is a link about global warming. It's part of the inconvient truth movie that AL Gore developed to helop spread knowledge on what we can do as a population together to save the earth. The website has alot of good facts and ideas to help you start out small to move towards conserving energy, etc. www.climatecrisis.net/

What an excellent idea Shana. Here's the link for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. For those of you who may not know what St. Jude's is, it is a hospital and research facility where children are treated for cancer, leukemia, etc. The families don't have to pay for treatment if they have no insurance. I like contributing to this charity because I had cancer when I was 4. Although I wasn't treated there, I remember most of what was happening and can't imagine what it must be like for parents to have a child so sick. Parents who are already suffering shouldn't have to worry about paying their bills. Anyhoons, check it out: www.stjude.org/

To add to Karen's, there is also the Shriner's hospital that is very similar, they do alot to help the community and in return hope for donations that cover the costs of the medical treatment for children. They specialize in bone conditions, cleft lips/palates and spine injuries. www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/_Hospitals_for_Children/

When I was a baby I was severely burned. My entire right side was covered in burns from my cheek down to my waist. I was only 7 months old and my chance for survival was very low. My family had no money to pay hospital bills, thats when the Shriners stepped in, not only did they give me top notch care and save my life they also threw in the reconstructive surgery and my face looks almost completely normal besides slight discoloration that I cover with make up. My body has some pretty nasty scars on it but that is a small thing compared to what could have been.

Thankyou guys . I'm gonna add all of these to my myspace page when I have some time. I'm happy you all posted links here too. Thankyou for sharing your story too Merry. I can't even begin to think of how difficult that was on your family, more specifically on you. I know of a group of certain people who wouldn't be the same without you (us). <3

Wow, Meredith. I had no idea. I love that there are still organizations that help people who really need it...especially children!

The first time I moved out with friends we were seriously struggling for money/food and we were shown when and where to get food from grocery store dumpsters... They toss out anything that has a "sell by" date of that week.. i mean, packs and packs of meat, bread, fruits and vegetables.. it was insane to see that they just threw it away. It wasn't expired or bad in any way... I didn't understand why it wasn't donated to shelters or something like that. I will tell people to this day that I ate food from a dumpster, granted, it wasn't someone's leftover trash.. but that's the point, it was edible food that could have gone to good use and instead was wasted by tossing it in the garbage.

I used to work at a grocery store and I would get so pissed that they just threw that food away and didn't give it to homeless shelters or food banks. It doesn't make sense to my why it all just goes to waste. At least you were able to benefit from it...
