SO I'm new here and I hope I'm not ruffling feathers, and I'm oldschool meloner, before the album was even out so I may be biased, but I REALLY REALLY think the band SHOULDNT play no rain. , Soon as I heard it on the album, when dear old dad was the current single I said "damn if this gets out its gonna be huge", YES it was the song that made them big but in another way I think the biggness of it sorta led to the downfall. And it was all shannon, (not that travis couldnt do a great job with it mind you" , and thats how the majority of folks knew the old melon. THIS IS THE NEW MELON, THE NEW MILLENIUM MELON< ITS TIME FOR A NEW VOICE, relying on the backcatalog I totally understand, but I for one hope that if only 1 old melon tune remains off the setlists, this would be the one.
Besides the fact, I dont really think its one of there best songs imo, and esp with the new sound not quite the same style, would be my bathroom break at the show ya know

I think a lot of fans would agree....but for some reason Blind Melon have fans that really only love that song. It was the biggest hit so I don't know how they would get away with not playing it. I could go forever without hearing that song again myself but I can bet that a ton of people come to the show just because they want to hear that song. I am looking forward to the new stuff and I hope to hear more of that at the shows myself.

I think you must be bored....to come up with a poll like this. What a dumb question.

Even though people seem to dislike No Rain because of what it did to the band, but i for one would like to thank that song... the majority of fans were turned onto the band by that song, and if it werent for that song, Blind Melon may have disappeared into obscurity, because they had no launching pad... No Rain was that launching pad, and for the few who did get turned onto, or discovered the band through other songs/means, you would be one of the few fans now... No matter how great their other stuff is, without No Rain their stuff would never have hit that many ears... In essense, No Rain should make the setlist because it is part of the band, perhaps the biggest part of the band, it is what the band is about, and if you ignore its effect on the band and its perception in the world, then you are very stupid...
Just because it is different to the rest of the songs on the album, doesnt mean that is a bad thing... if anything, as a wise man said once, Change is good... Why not be pissed off at Car Seat from Soup, because it sounds nothing like the rest of the album, it is the same thing... I cant understand bands these days who dont take risks and change it up a bit, if Blind Melon hadnt sought a new sound created in No Rain, they may have never reached an audience of any magnitude... That song helped the band grab fans from all around he globe... Im in Australia, do you think without No Rain Blind Melon would have reached here in a market containing Nirvana, Pearl Jam... in my opinion, surely not... They probably would have been one of those bands stuck in California, struggling to get by...
Even though it gets the most radio play, i would happily listen to it every day for the rest of my life... if anything it is a very underrated song, it is what help differentiate the Blind Melon's from the Nirvana, and the rest of the early 90's grunge movement... Just think, without No Rain, and all the people buying the cd (no matter how shallow they are) just for that song, the band may never have come up with the money to create, the confidence to continue as a band nor the opportunity to able to take the creative risk that would be Soup (in my opinion the greatest album of all time)...

I completely understand the impact of the song and all that, and no its not a bad tune , and yes part of the uniqueness of melon was there diversity, but I still dont think it is ever what defined them as a band, and I understand it was the song that catuplted many people for the love of them , however I do think even without its success the chances of soup being made were still pretty likely, change could have even come out as a single before no rain and that could have been a moderate hit and gotten them enough pull to get a second cd from there record deal hence wed still have soup. And I understand its there staple, but this is sthe NEW MELON, I just think leaving it out would make a greater impact, if the people are only there cause they wanna hear no rain and thats it, well fairweather johnsons just arent my cup of tea
And calling me stupid, bored, dumb for even thinking that way is quite inconsiderate, I didnt just say DONT PLAY IT, I thought I gave some pretty sound reasoning, to me yes it was the high point in there carrer but also the catalyst for the downfall in someways, and should be left on the shelf, its just an opinion

Glen already posted that the song will most-probably be played.
I don't mind hearing the tune. It's not my favorite... But, it doesn't bother me. I actually get excited when it comes on the radio, or the television.

Anyone who listens to Blind Melon is not dumb, stupid, or anything along those lines. In fact, you are a brillant person if you listen to the Melon. I just think its a dumb question and it seems like your trying to re-hash an old topic. But hey, this forum is open to the world and anyone can post what they want, for the most part. I just thought it was a dumb question/poll. I agree with what Matt said. No Rain is a part of Melon. Its raining here in New Jersey, therefore, I am Blind. You figure it out ....

Play it. Why not? Some fans will feel a little cheated if they don't see it, and touring is about pleasing the fans (because unhappy fans don't buy more tickets or write good reviews convincing others to buy tickets). It's not like it's a bad song... in fact the playing it with Change is a great way to keep the show running smooth in the middle.

BTW, if your question is "does or doesn't", yes is not an answer.

I think it would be cool if they played No Rain - but with a twist. You know, like the (ripped away version), or with a different bass line. I'm not picky. They could play no rain, no snow, no clouds... whatever. I'm just happy they're getting on stage

I think it woul have been highly unlikely that we would have gotten Soup without No Rain... You need money to make a second album, even Shannon says it during the Muchmusic show to quote "I think it changed how much money we could spend on the new album"..., and if it wasnt for No Rain, they would not have had the chance to tour with Soundgarden and such... it is a sound that catapulted them onto a higher level with these other bands... they must have gotten heaps of experience from touring with such bands... if not for No Rain, they may have never played Woodstock... if No Rain wasnt there, the progression of events would not have been the same... if we had a time machine and went back in time and changed one thing, the progression of events would not ever be the same as the first time... for all we know the band may have moved to Ireland and started up and r'nb/rap outfit... Surely they would not have been able to replicate that exact sound... Shannon may not have had the money to buy that Galaxie, and hance there would be no song Galaxie... they may not have toured internationally either, and hence not grab a European audience... i dont know how many albums it would have taken to hit the mainsteam without No Rain, but that song took them to the big time, and us fans who dug the rest of their stuff since have that song to thank for buying tha album, i do, maybe not you... It is like youre separating the song from the band ("hey you either like the 'real Blind Melon' or the 'No Rain Blind Melon"), it was part of the album why not put it on the setlist... like someone said before, if i bought a ticket purely to see Blind Melon, and No Rain (which are not my reasons for wanting to see them) id be pissed if i did hear it... wouldnt you? And in a way it is kind of selfish to think of our own interests vs the majority... sure we have supported the band all these years for their whole catalogue of music, but these people who want to see No Rain played have paid the same amount for the album, the same amount for live show ticket, arent they entitled to have one song played... is 3 minutes of your time too much to waste during a 60-90 minute show... id kill to hear No Rain in the flesh from the band who came up with that masterpiece, and it is unfortunate niot to hear it from Shannon's mouth, but im sure Travis will do a killer job... sure i would love to hear a more spiced up version like the ripped away version, but that isnt the song the greater majority fell in love with... stick your feet in the shoes of Joe Public, and think about it, it is not too much to sacrifice... that is just my opinion... and i dont wanna sound harsh but please dont take things so personally... there are other more offensive words than stupid or dumb that could be more hurtful...

piperstash...with all due respect...just "take a bathroom break at the show ya know"(your own words and remedy) ..when BLIND MELON plays NO RAIN. I love the band then, now and unconditionally...so yes I'd love it for No Rain to be on the playlist..and I really hope it is. And I am not alone, I dare say. So, anyway, thank you Blind Melon for ALL of your awesome music! Can hardly wait for the show. rip- Shannon

I don't care if they play it. I think it would mean a lot to so many people who love the song and to whom the song means something special for them. Personally, there are many times that I am sick of hearing it. There are many, many more songs that mean more to me on a personal level. Luckily it's not up to me and they guys will do what they feel is right.
