I am having a stressful week, my company layed off alot of people exactly this time last year.....we noticed the bosses are all acting weird with closed door meetings and they are not acting as friendly as usual, plus a bad idea to create more revenue before the end of the year completely backfired for them. I'm afraid of another lay off, and its always right before Christmas. Please send good vibes my way, I can't lose my job!

Fingers firmly crossed! Surely the incompetents would be the first to go, not a capable melon like you, right? Yeah!

I feel for you Mere. Lay-offs are a very scary thing. The company Greg used to work for would do the same thing...laying people off right before Christmas...plus they were doing random layoffs throughout the year as well for 3 years in a row. It's a very stressful situation to have to consider what your options would be if a lay-off affected you. Just when you feel safe you hear rumors of another lay-off coming up. What ended up happening to Greg is that since he was a good worker they didn't lay him off, they just stuck him with the responsibilities of all of the other people who did get laid off until ultimately he was solely responsible for doing the job of 5 or 6 people. Finally he found a way out and took a new job. I really hope you don't have to deal with that type of situation.

Sonya, my hubby had a job like that once, too. He finally quit and got a different job-- he said he'd rather leave knowingly than have it happen at an unexpected time. Meredith, if your record is that good, surely they wouldn't screw themselves by letting you go! Especially if they're laying off some of their people, they'll need the good ones there to carry on!

#smileyhug# This is the last thing you need to worry about this time of year. I'm sure you will be safe but I will send some good vibes your way. Just tell them to kiss your #shakeass# and to leave you alone or we'll come after them. Don't mess with melons! #gun#

Sonya, my hubby had a job like that once, too. He finally quit and got a different job-- he said he'd rather leave knowingly than have it happen at an unexpected time. That was exactly Greg's situation. That is no way to live, constantly being afraid that you may not have a job the next day. It's very bad for the morale of the employees. I kept telling him that continuing to stay at his job was like being trapped in an abusive relationship. Unfortunately the job market in his field was so shitty that it took a few years to find something comparable. He's very happy with the new job he took and he's no longer being taken advantage of. Meredith, if your record is that good, surely they wouldn't screw themselves by letting you go! Especially if they're laying off some of their people, they'll need the good ones there to carry on! Charity is right. As much as the company wants you to think layoffs are random, they are not stupid enough to let go of their best people. I think you'll be safe.
