Hey guys, I just have a question that maybe you have some insight on... A day doesn't go by where I don't get butterflies thinking about the Blind Melon tour coming up in the near future. But soon these butterflies turn into stinging bumble-bees when I wonder if the shows will be open to all ages. You see... I live in Canada (the drinking age is 19), and I am 18. I would be devastated if all the gigs are at locations where minors are a no-no. Do you think that Blind Melon will play where only people "of age" can attend? Thank you!! -carolyn

I sure hope so.
If I had to guess, I would probably forget to.

I don't live in Canada, but in the U.S. most shows at a decent size venue are typically 18 and over even though the drinking age is 21. You just have to show ID at the door and they give you a hand stamp or bracelet or something that indicates whether or not you're old enough to drink.
In Canada are you considered an adult at age 18? In the U.S. you are an adult at 18 but you can't buy alcohol until you're 21.
A lot of times venues that are typically age restrictive are more lenient when national acts are booked. Those are the shows that bring the venue the most money so they may have a special policy to let younger people in than they normally do.
If I were you I would think about which small venues in your area book national rock bands. Visit their websites and take a look at their upcoming schedules to see if any shows are listed as "all ages". They should list their policies regarding age somewhere on the website, maybe in a faq section. I frequently have to check for this type of information when I'm trying to find out whether or not it's ok to bring my kids to a show with me. It's typically pretty easy info to find out.
I really don't know if Blind Melon has a say in whether or not their shows are all ages, but I can assure you that if it's within their power they would want all of their fans to be able to check out their live shows regardless of age. I think each individual venue probably has their own policies regarding that type of issue.

I can't imagine not being able to buy alchohol when I was younger than 21y.o...that was the time when I drank the most alcohol in my life! I hope you'll be able to go crystal! I'm pretty sure the BM guys wouldn't want this kind of restriction for their fans, now let's hope they have enough power to decide that.

The latest rock shows I have been to have been all ages. I think it really depends on the venue. Blind Melon has a pretty large age range of fans so hopefully the shows will be all ages!

It sucks that there are shows being held at venues where people under 18 aren`t allowed to go in. Here in Stockholm we have alot of smaller places where semi-big bands play and those venues often have age limits. Many fans miss out on their favourite band because they are under 18. Stupid!... Oh yea,April!.. You are the cutest liar i know!

The day Blind Melon comes to Stockholm(if they come at all),i think there is a big chance that they will play at one of those places where the age limit is 18. Melon won`t get to play the Globe arena or even Hovet unless they will be opening for some bigger band, those are arenas and don`t have any age limits. I can`t imagine how much it will hurt the younger fans to finally get the chance to see Blind Melon in their country but won`t get in because of age limit..

And btw.... Im keeping my fingers crossed that the shows wont have age restrictions.. When I went to see Rogers old band Sparticle the club was 17+ which was really lucky b/c I was 17 then.
Most clubs here are actually 17+. What they do is they make you pay more to get in (since you wont be buying drinks) and mark your hands to indicate you're a minor. I tihnk you'll be fine!

How do you tell if someone is 17?
What if you don't have a driver's license at that point or a transportable form of identification?
There are other ways to get in anyway.

My heart would be ripped to shreds if Blind Melon was playing in my town and I couldn't go because of age restrictions. I think I would have to stand outside the building and find a way in... I'm gonna take a look at some of the places in my town and in the Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal area. I'm planning to travel down there for the tour. Thanks for all your help guys!! -carolyn (I'm eating waterMELON right now teehee)

Might not be a very safe advice but I used to get in ALL the time with other people's ID's and now that Im 21 I always let others use mine (no one I know ever got caught). It doesnt really matter if you dont look alike, it's usually dark and door people are always in a hurry... They're usually looking for birthdates and to make sure the IDs are real. Something to consider... If I was denied entry at a BM show I'd do ANYTHING to get in too Good luck!
