In my opinion, the first record kinda has to be commercial... It NEEDS songs that will sell the record.
For example... Look at Candlebox.. 1st album = You, Far Behind, Cover Me...etc..
They sold millions... The next album was more what they WANTED to write... Very rough... It only sold 500,000... And, their 3rd album (which is their best, IMO) sold 250,000 or so... I'm not sure how their new album is selling..
But, if the band doesn't have that "catch" on their first record... they wouldn't really have the funds to make a record they want (ie. sophomore record)... Gotta have that initial hit... After that, do what ya want!

I see... Pop out that Bubble Gum Rock, and you will coin it then get all that vintage guitar/effects you want... #lol#

that was a really interesting fact I never knew. Suprisingly Distance to Here is my favorite Live album. It's really a solid album from start to finish...and I had no clue that Christopher Thorn was involved with it!!!!! That's awesome

Never really like the band but did burn "Dance with you" which Thorn sounds great playing slide guitar. And contrary to earlier , my understanding from reading the liner notes which I dont currently have in front of me he only played on i believe two or three of the songs on that album. isn't one lyric by live something like"the placenta falls to the floor"? lame.

I think that is from the song "Lightning Crashes"... That's not the album that he played on, to my knowledge.
Christopher told me he played guitar on every song on the "The Distance to Here" album, besides "Dolphins Cry".

I have Live's 'Throwing Copper', too, and I also had no idea that CT had any connection to them in any way. Wild!

I like +Live+, still listen to them, love Daulphin's Cry. They're not afraid of being themselves which I always admire. Buy our own Matt's 12 Daze cd, it's my driving cd.

Bah! I can't find my Live CD!! But when UT opened for Live, CT played "Dance With You" and "Face And Ghost (The Children's Song)" with them...I think?? Or was in "Run To The Water"? I'll have to look through my old UT stuff! I used to know this stuff but my memory stinks right now!

i remember when they were recording the album.. and they had a studio cam set up to watch them. no audio, which sucked... so you didnt really get the "feel" of it.. but i did see Christopher a slight few times. (twice i think?)
i absolutely love +Live+ and Mental Jewelry is a constant go to album for me. And EVERYONE should listen to "Beauty of Grey"
