First, my apologies for taking so long to respond. I actually thought I posted this a while ago and just figured it out that I didn’t. Again, so sorry for taking so long to respond – it’s not because I didn’t appreciate your gifts, I’ve just had a hard time adjusting and trying to fit everything into my schedule. Jon and I would joke that we would never get divorced just because neither of us wanted to be a single parent... you don’t realize how much someone does until they are not around to do it anymore. I’ve had a lot of help from family and friends though; I’m not sure how I would do this without their support. Things have been difficult, but we are getting through it. The kids are doing well, we’ve kept them very busy this summer hoping it would help them cope – I think it’s worked some. We all miss Jon… as much as we would rather have him here; life goes on without him… so we are doing that the best we can.
It is truly amazing the support and generosity you have all shown, for a man and a family you have never even met – you might say, for a man you didn’t even know. But I have read through the threads, and it seems to me like you guys got to know Jon pretty well - every post I read on your take of Jon was right on. He was (still hard to write/say “was”) extremely funny, and a very caring father and loving husband. Our family was the most important thing to him; music was a very close second. His love showed through in everything he did – anyone who knew Jon, knows how much he loved his family and his music. The last few years were tough on us because of his disability, but aside from the constant pain, in the end he had everything he wanted… a family he loved deeply, a great house in the perfect little neighborhood with a pool and huge yard, and the truck of his dreams with a Blind Melon sticker on it of course and his personalized plate “TENFOLD”. We were very happy.
Rayna, Logan, Sully and I want to thank you for your very generous gifts. The gifts you gave are quite amazing… For those who don’t know, the gifts were - a Rose bush in his name at Dow Gardens, here in Michigan just 20 minutes or so away, along with a season pass – planting of 10 fruit trees in his memory by Villagers in Nicaragua, Guatemala and Haiti to feed them and teach them become more self-sufficient – donation to the National Arbor Day Foundation in his name (10 trees will be planted in the Gallatin National Forest near Yellowstone National Park) – gift cards for each child at Wal-Mart, already spent on toys of course – gift card to Home Depot, which will go for a storm door we’ve been meaning to buy – jewelry by Nell Hoon, very nice necklaces that hang on Jon’s urn when we are not wearing them – two Blind Melon cd’s, Live at the Wetlands and The Roseland Ballroom, which are probably the gifts Jon would be most excited about.
I can’t believe you guys went through all this trouble, Jon would be so proud that he touched the lives of so many… I hope you all had some good laughs at his posts. In his memory, I hope that each time you hear a Blind Melon song you send good vibes his way. It is great to know that people all over are thinking good thoughts about him…
My sincere thanks,
Wendy, “the wife” of Jon Larson
