Greetings~
I just last weekend watched the Behind the Music again for the first time probably since it first came out. Since then a lot has happened in my life. I've started attending Shannon's Vigils, I've met the Hoon family, and I've developed a connection with all of you.
So the point is I wanted to puke in my mouth when I watched that fucking thing again. Did anyone else feel that way?
It's like . . . there's this dorky fucking idiot saying retarded ass shit like:
"Shannon's world continued to spiral into an abyss of drugs, blah blah blah."
That's not an exact quote but that's the idea. I hate it. I just hate that thing. I hate the Behind the fucking Music. I really felt like they did not portray him in a respectable light. Rather, they depicted him as being this pathetic, pitiable drug fiend. No mention of his talent or anything positive that I can really think of.
I hate it.
That is all.

I didn't like it either, the whole thing was focused on a downward spiral of drug abuse, there was nothing nice or happy about the entire thing, it was depressing and sad. I am sure there were tons of great things they could talk about but they didn't. I'm sure they had a ton of fun editing everything from the interviews with everyone too to make it look worse.

I found it great the first time I saw it but I think it was because it was the first documentary besides the Letters that I saw of Blind Melon. It made me totaly sad but I was still more focused on everything I liked in this documentary. Like Shannon's personal video tapes and some stuff the guys said... I think it's not ALL negative, actualy it made me realize even more what a wonderful person Shannon was, probably cause I didn't pay much attention on their drugs blahblah shit. I it's the biggest part of the documentary but if you take it out there's a few little diamonds Anyhoons, it DOES TOTALY SUCK that they had to focus so much on his drug addiction and like I said in another thread, when I saw Sublime BTM I realized what a shit BTM actualy is cause they did exactly the same thing with Sublime BTM. That's commercial documentaries, what can you do. Finaly it's only because most of people are looking for drama on TV and likes it...it's only for people that they do it, for masses...and masses like drama.

The first time i watched it, was yeeeears ago and i guess it stunned me at first cuz it shut me up and i didnt have anything to say after that, Whereas before i watched it was chit chattering away to a friend about how cool Shannon is, blah blah blah
Hmmm and i think, at first it stunned me because i bought it all and i thought to myself:
"Shit i didnt think it was like that at all"
But over time i've come to learn that it wasnt like it is portrayed in Behind the music. I don't trust the likes of VH1 or MTV to make a documentary about someone and not dramatize certain things and watnot.
I recently watched behind the music again out of sheer curiosity, and the fact that i LOVE shannons funny little home videos ;D But like my mummy, i hated listening to that silly narrator with his melodramatic jibberish.
It IS dorky.
Innit. I dont like the fact that, alot of people interviewed for it may have said alot of GREAT things about Shannon, and VH1 only used the bits where they're saying things like:
"Shannon was going crazy"
Or whatever. They missed the point on WHO shannon was and focused on drug addiction, they might aswell have been making a documentary about drug addiction, not Shannon Hoon.
Innit! Bastards.

All Behind The Music's seem to follow a pattern using drama and negativity...they are entertainment shows that follow a specific formula to get the highest ratings. It would be nice if someone would do an accurate documentary about Blind Melon. The only thing I liked about it was that they used a lot of footage that I had never seen before.

LOL that's a great quality to have, always being able to find something positive in everything. my sister's like that and i always wished i could emulate her more but that's just not me. i like to bitch. but i'm glad i posted this after all, because initially i thought i'd take some heat for it but i'm glad i'm not the only one that felt that way about it. really. the whole thing makes me want to barf. #throwup#

I got made when I saw it because it portrayed Shannon as completely out of control and didn't focus on the other guys at all. They do like to put the dramatic twist on all of them and I'm sure that it wasn't like that.

You're right Karen. They should have called it Shannon Hoon: Behind the Music because he was the only one the show focused on. It's exactly the same way the Sublime episode only focused on Bradley Nowell and the Creed episode only focused on douchebag Scott Stapp. I can't specifically recall any of the other episodes I've seen right now, but the show only focuses on the member of the band that had the most drama associated with them. Just like Glen said...tabloid journalism.

I agree with everything you guys are saying. The good part was definately all the rare personal footage. It makes me want to go out and by a camera and start documenting my life. How popular around the office would i be?

I know I liked watching it though, because I got to know a little more. I was SO sad watching Nel on it though. I have children, and I swear I could feel her pain as she spoke, although I never have felt that type of pain. I even cried during that part.
I agree, it was focused on Shannon more, instead of the band.

Oh, I cried too much watching it and I never cried about Shannon's death before. yeah man. i agree with everything you cats just said. i was waiting for Barb to weigh in. i KNEW she would find something positive about it, which tickles me it does so. LOL that's a great quality to have, always being able to find something positive in everything. my sister's like that and i always wished i could emulate her more but that's just not me. i like to bitch. Haha! You're right, I do try to find positive side of things - always! Maybe it's cause I can't stand too much negativity so I just make it better for myself at least, if others don't see it too. Besides, I belive there IS always something good about everything...except for a few things...but I won't go into that now...and the world needs more good vibes anyway.
