I seen Metallica a ton of times all the way til through the black album ....absolutely loved their early stuff....not a fan of the newer stuff although its alright its just not the Metallica i loved back in the day. Megadeth and Metallica were 2 powerful forces of metal back then, I look for bands who can do what they do on tape on stage and both of them are pretty much flawless on stage...much like Blind Melon
As for the early thrash bands I can include Ludichrist and Anthrax from the NYHC ( New York Hard Core scene )

I always deemed them the less popular metallica from back in the day.
