In my opinion I think that Jim's lyrics (poetry) that ended up in The Doors songs is better than a lot of his poetry that didn't make it into the songs.

I love them too. When they first started out Morrison couldn't face the audience because of stage fright so he would turn his back to them. Boy did that change. Some of what Shannon did on stage kind of reminds me of Jim.

They were both extremely charismatic performers. Hopefully Shannon, Jim, Jimi, Janis, Jerry, Kurt, etc. are all jamming out in heaven together.

I LOVE the Doors!!! I don't listen too much to them anymore but I think it's simply cause I listened TOO MUCH years ago. I listened to them ALL the time just before I found Blind Melon. Still absolutely love them of course!

The Doors are the best!! I can never get enough of them. I grew up listening to the Doors. Celebration of The Lizard is one great work of art. I think they should have added it to the Waiting For The Sun album like originally planned. There is a creepy clip of Celebration on You tube. Jim sounds evil. Favorite song from each album: End of The Night, Strange Days, Spanish Caravan, Shaman's Blues, Maggie M' Gill, Riders on The Storm

There is a new Doors documentary called When You're Strange. It just came out. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks awesome because it has tons of unseen footage.

There is a new Doors documentary called When You're Strange. It just came out. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks awesome because it has tons of unseen footage. OMG I'M SLIPPING IN MY OLD AGE! I had no idea about that! Do you have any more details? I am probably one of the biggest Doors fans you will find (you know, that wasn't alive while Jim was...lol) I have spent years and years listening to them! I've read a bunch of the books....(including Patricia's book, which I took with a grain of salt), I have all of the studio recordings twice over (i bought them and then my a guy at work that I guess would have been a supervisor and I babysat for him got me the boxset...and then I have another box set...t-shirts, pajamas and I have a bunch of old records in excellent condition which I've framed (including one, that through some research I found is an original of one that was rereleased and the original release was only produced in a very small quantity so is pretty rare....it helps to work for a radio station!) and I actually met Ray back, oh, I don't know, maybe 7 years ago! I live in Cleveland, and he came to the rock hall to do his show, which was really cool. He just got up on stage with a keyboard, told stories about being in the doors and played here and there in between. He was THE NICEST coolest guy! He signed a ton of autographs and took pictures with everyone! I don't have them scanned in, but if I get the chance I'll get it in to share! Anyone that wishes to, please feel free to pm me about the doors any time! People understand my doors fascination more than they do my blind melon one, but I still don't have any huge fans over here that will listen to me just be utterly stupid about them! oh and speaking of the rock hall, they had, for what seemed like a long time, a full doors exhibit. Actually, you can't really call it an exhibit, it'd be more accurate to call it a floor! You should have seen all the cool stuff! Notes and pictures and drawings and report cards from when Jim was in gradeschool....tons and tons of stuff! They literally had to force me out of there at closing time! ok, I could go on forever, like I said, anyone who wants to chat about the doors, I'm here!

and by old age, I'm only 30.....so not really old, just a figure of speech! and right now I'm trying to remember my favorite doors song and between fighting to keep my eyes open and soul one being so etched in my brain from listening to it like 12 times today, I can't think of the title of even one doors song right now! lol

oh and by the way, thanks for sharing that picture! That is AWESOME! I'm gonna have to save it so that I can use it for wallpaper after I'm done with the New Moon wallpaper. (which will probably be awhile!)

You are so lucky to meet Ray! It's cool to meet someone who is into the doors as much as I am. This is the When You're Strange trailer.

I've always been a huge Doors fan. Its amazing to me that when you have a band that great they can pump out so much great music in such a short span of time. (Only five or six years tops ?) I've got to pick up some of the new previously unreleased live stuff that just came out- San Fran. and New York . I saw the Doors with Ian Astbury on vocals in Atlantic city a few years back and it was an awesome show!!!

Okay I have absolutely loved the Doors for many o' years....def in my top 5 ...there are a few things between the Doors and Blind Melon that seem quite similar......first of all they both had amazing frontmen who were completely unpredictable on stage and off......they were both under rated by critics in their day....and the song Waiting for the Sun never appeared on the same titled album but on Morrison Hotel 2 years later...same as Soup did not appear on soup but it was on the posthumous release Nico..............wasn't sure if anyone else ever made that connection before ........MML&R Rachel

I have definitely noticed the similarities between Jim and Shannon. But I never paid attention to the Waiting for the Sun, and Soup connection...thats cool. Thats funny because I should have noticed that. Because those are two of my favorite records from each band. Soup is definitely my favorite Melon record. And Waiting for the Sun is one of my favorite Doors records.
