I can't stand Weezer. Another "band" I can't stand is The White Stripes.
I think it's time to create an "Under-rated bands" thread.

Blue album is great great great... but their new stuff is overrated. Waaaaay... "beverly hills" was way boring... and I just didn't like any of the other singles...

The thing that is great about Nirvana is they wrote an ironic song (SLTS) that was catchy enough to play on MTV that basically made all the bands on MTV look foolish. It was like a giant bowling ball knocking Slaughter, Warrant and everyone else out of there. Watch old videos on Youtube from 1991 (pre-Nirvana) by Tuff, Wildside, Wild Boyz and you'll see.
But at the time there were other bands that came out before Nirvana that were almost doing that like Faith No More, Alice in Chains, and Ugly Kid Joe but weren't successful enough.
Once SLTS came everyone just said "finally we're done with all the wannabee Motley Crue bands lets start listening to no-nonsense rock bands like BM, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam." I don't think Nirvana was really a great band, but that one song was strong enough to literally redefine rock and roll and bring it back to its basic elements. That's why it is one of the greatest songs in rock and roll history. You can't really deny that.

It only caught on because it wasn't proper grunge, it was too poppy to be grunge, it was poppy enough to get the mainstream listening & rocky enough to get the scene kids from the underground
I'm not saying having a pop element to a song is a bad thing, but only when done well
That reminds me, the Foo Fighters are over-rated, I really don't like them
& I agree with metallica & iron maiden being over-rated

I agree with the Foo Fighters, but i strongly disagree with Metallica... They redefined metal and exposed it to the masses... If you check out their catalogue the amount of good songs is astounding...

Metallica is definitely not overrated. Its something a 12 year old would say. Its like saying Led Zeppelin or the Rolling Stones is overrated. They are just plain NOT.

I just hate the way you can ask any 12 year old scene kid who their favourite bands are & they will say Blink 182 & Metallica every single time, ask what their favourite album is & they'll say Dude Ranch for Blink & the black Metallica one (depending on what they think it's really called) - they don't actually like the band they just claim they are amazing because everyone else does & it's a big cycle
it's a shame because it's not Metallica's fault, I do think they are good, though they are not my thing, just not that good

well there's the first five albums from metallica, then everything after that is mediocre...the albums aren't too great. then they did things like garage inc., didn't they have some album with a symphony? and what about that panzy ass movie 'some kind of monster.'...but with that said, i'm not that big of a metallica fan to begin with

lol ok so i admit im guilty here of stopping reading all of your responses halfway through
but i have to say this, i personally think nirvana are only over rated because of kurt cobains death. blind melon are a totally different band, and unlike kurt, shannon wanted to live and in my eyes, represented everything opposite to kurt cobain, who represents this depression trend kids seem to be stuck in.
kurt had talent as a writer and a great voice, and alot of passion in what he did, he went all the way, i wont dismiss that. I grew up listening to nirvana, so i cant deny thier talents or watever. But still they are over rated, because of kurt.
anyhoons im abit drunk and drunken rants are not good. so im off chow.
