I wish I had kept a journal from back then. Shit, I wish I kept a journal now! One other thing I forgot to mention is that after the Catonsville show, Aku asked Shannon if they had a place to stay that night. She invited him and the rest of the band to come and spend the night at her house (which was also her parents' house). We had big plans to smoke them out with the gravity bong she had hidden in her basement if they took us up on the offer. We must have been stoned to think they would go home with a couple of 15 year old girls. Unfortunately things didn't work out as planned, but that would have been a cool story if they had actually said yes. Aku and I always had big fantasies about hanging out with them at the Sleepyhouse. The Sleepyhouse was a mythological place in our minds. Nothing in life was more appealing to us than the idea of lounging around the Sleepyhouse with a sort of "fly on the wall" perspective into the inner-life of the band. We thought they must sit around getting stoned all day and playing music. We didn't think life could get any better than that. ;D

We thought they must sit around getting stoned all day and playing music. We didn't think life could get any better than that. ;D That's so funny. I had the same fantasies. In passing, once, somebody in Blind Melon said I should drive down from Ohio and hang out at the Sleepyhouse with them. My car sucked and I knew it wouldn't make it more than 100 miles so I never took them up on the offer. I don't know how serious they were but in hindsight I wish I would have gone. When I saw the guys last month I told them how I saw the pictures of Sleepyhouse here on the board (they were talking about it on the bus) and I told them that seeing those pictures kind of shattered my illusions because in my head I always picture the Sleepyhouse to be the house in the "I Wonder" video. Seeing that it was just a "normal" house on a college campus really shocked me.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. When my husband and I went and found the Sleepyhouse last year it was kind of a shock that it looked totally different than what I had imagined. We felt a little silly taking pictures of this house that may or may not actually be it. I had to email Rogers the pictures and ask him if it was the right place. Even he couldn't confirm it 100%. He said it looked like it, but his memory was a little hazy from those days. I could sympathize. What really made it real for me was watching the Letters From A Porcupine dvd and there is just a little clip that's only a couple seconds long that shows Christopher on the front porch and you can see the church that's across the street. At that point it became real to me that it was the right place. Then what really drove it in for good was when Glen confirmed it in the forum and posted more pictures and told us about it. It's too bad your car couldn't make it from Ohio to NC. Just imagine the stories you would have had. Well, you already have great stories but you would have had a lot more awesome memories. When they were talking about it on the bus last month, what were they saying about it? Did they think it was crazy that some melonheads decided to find it? Did they recall any good stories or memories that you can share with us?

This thread made me really happy this morning ^_^ I don't really know why.. Maybe the first-hand glimpse at Shannon, and the reflection on that time in your life where things seemed so easy (What I wouldn't give to be 15 again sometimes. I would never have to worry about bills, or rent, or anything else.. I saw my first concert at 15, too : Stevie Nicks. Wow, was I badass or what? *j/k*) Thanks for sharing this I really enjoyed it

Sonya, you're absolutely adorable in those pics and you're indeed lucky, It's also very nice to know that they were humble enough to genuinely be surprised that you were there for them. #smilieblindmelonforum#
