:(okay, I was 13 years old, which seems quite young but that was when I was having all types of crazy things on in my life. Lets just say I kinda grew up a little faster than most. I had just started really getting into music. My family has always been very musical people. I believe it was my older brother and his friends who introduced me to BM. I'll never forget it because my bro was pissed and upset at the same time. I was sad and at the time I wasn't really sure why. I think the death of Kurt and Shannon both bothered me not only because of the end of the tunes but that they both had a child. See, I was always a "daddy's girl" and being 13 all I was thinking was those poor little girls with no daddy. It was kinda a family afair to see what would be said on MTV news! Sad day then and even sadder to me now. RIP Shannon May you always rest Easy and May Your Spirit always Soar!

i was 19 and was in my livin room watchin somethin on mtv and they came on and announced it. i remember i had to hear it again cause it just didnt register...it was like i was in a numb daze or somethin...like someone that i actually knew had died...from there on until recently my feelings about music and how i relate to music was really dulled..took blind melon to wake me up again

I was 11...I didn't know about his passing at the time and to be honest..I really didn't know until last year...guess I had to find out later than sooner...but, I CAN say that I probably wouldn't have grieved as hard back then, so in a way, I wish I would have known about it when it actually happened...if that makes any sense...It makes me so sad every time I think about it ..but, we have to move on...I don't think Shannon would want us to be sad in any way

I was 15. I remember hearing about it first thing in the morning..my WHOLE day was just shitty. I can remember sitting off the side of the grave yard and watching them through my tear filled eyes put him in the ground.

Driving down the road in my 86 Honda Accord with my husband and brother in the car and I remember it was a bright blue sky day. . I was 21 and a new Mom, and all I knew of Melon then was No rain and Change, my brother is the one who was heavy into the band then. I remember the DJ on the radio say something and then Shannon's name and that he was gone. My brother was very upset and just so bummed and I remember watching a bunch of TV stuff for the next few days on his passing. #eyes#

I was about 8 when Shannon died so I really didn't pay too much attention to the band. I had heard No Rain on the radio and seen the music video a lot. I wasn't that into it. Or at least I didn't think I was. I liked it but I didn't know why. It wasn't until a few years ago when i heard No rain again and decided to find the rest of their songs on a torrent, because I didn't have any money to run out and buy it. (I owe them money.) Then I really loved all the songs. Especially change and walk. I could really relate to it in a strange way. Then I found out more about their story and I got really upset. 1. Because everyone is missing out because of one stupid mistake. and 2. Because Bands like Nirvana and others who I can't stand are HUGE even after their singers death and almost no one knows who Blind Melon is. Or of they do they just know "No Rain" and still say they are huge fans.

Well since i am pretty close to the same age as Shannon this hit me hard considering they were and have been my favorite band since the self titled came out. I got turned on to them from being into Guns n' Roses and seeing Don't Cry and then the 'Making of Don't Cry...Meeting Shannon has and always been a good highlight of my life......But on to the where i was...I was @ work on a Saturday night cooking in a Damon's restaurant and we were listening to the local rock radio station WDVE and the dj came on to say that in rock news we lost another Great singer ...Blind Melon frontman.........and I dont remember what was said after that I just sat down and started to cry until I got a phonecall from my roomate who knew how much i loved this band to tell me the news i had just heard...My boss lemme take the rest of the evening off and i went out to Pitt campus where the headshop Teleropa was and there was a gathering of people who blocked the street and we had a candlelight vigil right there in the middle of the street. playing Melon and sharing stories all night until the police finally came in to ask us to clear the street. Same thing when Jerry died but Jerrys was alot biger crowd and got moved to another part of campus in front of the bar that hosted DEAD NITE......RIP brother Shannon......flying free.......

I was sat in school,
I remember because it was years about 7 years after he died when i started getting into them, i remember being blown away by this guys voice and I loved everything about them, their look, their music and just how they all seemed to be so free!
I was listening to them one day during a ICT lesson at school and I was just cruising around Wikipedia just reading about random shit, as per usual, when i thought I'd read up on these guys, i was reading through and then i read that Shannon had passed on.. and well, I was really fucking gobsmacked, i'd never really felt that way about some I didnt personally know passing on, but it was different when I read that... I cant explain it.
I hope he's as free now as he was when he was here!
