So im really into films and making short films this summer and have alot of projects noted down, And i was talking to my friend nick the other night, because he shares my passion in films ...Hes like a little rich boy though, and his parents are paying £8,000 a year for him to be in film school next year Which means, hes gunna learn an awful lot and really get out there one day So i was talking to him about projects and suggested we make a film together, and it came about in conversation that we should make the film about Shannon, Because we were talking about Gus Van Sants "last days" and the fact that theres a film coming out about nico blue (the singer) and one about janis joplin. Anyhoons im posting this as a thread to see what you all think of the idea. I mean we wont be making this film for a LONG time, because we dont have the money or equipment or actors hahah! But we're not trying to glam it up, like make this amazing hollywood film about him or anything! We're gunna make the film quite cheap to be honest....and try and keep it naturalistic and on the go. But NOT documentary-like.
Anyhoons we have a couple of screenshot ideas and bits of story board, we already know how we're doing the ending, But im not gunna let you all in on that because one day you'll see it in a cinema lol
I hope no filmakers out there gets there before me and nick do or i'll be annoyed hahaha
Anyhoons yeah, any ideas or suggestions are welcome, and if we do put forward or put to use any ideas given to us we'll put you in our credits

Hey Bumcakes,
Im glad you brought this up... My brother is aspiring to become a director, which is pretty cool... As an aspiring musician, i can try and convince him to put my music in his films... Also, his best friend is a child actor who has worked with actors like Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush, so hopefully he'll have some pretty good connections... I too love making short films too... actually, i was runner up in a short film competition a couple of years ago for my hilarious instructional golf film at my school... The judges did not want to encourage people to do it on their own, so that is why they made me runner up instead of winner... We had 8 months to make it, and i got in a fight with my group cause i wasnt getting any input, so i bailed and made my film in one month before screening... Sucks to them, i beat them!!!...
I am actually making a short film for my architecture course in a couple of weeks, which has nothing to do with architecture, and my mind has been bombarded with ideas and causing me to go a bit mental...
As for a film on the life of Shannon Hoon, that sounds great... I wonder if Shannon knew any 6 ft1in, dark haired, blue eyed, 18 year old Aussies? I could play that part in the movie...lol... The thing about films based on the life of someone is that you need permission from family members and such... For example, Brad Pitt has been in a five year battle with Mary Guibert (Jeff Buckley's mum) about his plan for a movie on Jeff's life... She reckons that Jeff's life cannot be restricted to a 2 hour movie and that Pitt would be a laughing stock if people saw Jeff's beautiful vocals coming out of his mouth... However, recent news is that Mary has given in (behing Pitt's back) and is searching for a suitable director/producer for the film which will be entitled "Mystery White Boy"... If you can work something out, that would be a great independent film... Just hurry up though, or ill get my brother to snag your idea and we'll make it first!!! lol... Just kidding...

HAHAHAHA thats brilliant well you know, i was thinking i dont mind whos in on making the film with me and my friend nick But you never know, im thinking of getting melonheads involved in this project when we're making it into a film because it would have more of a feeling to it, like everyone took part in telling the story of shannons life or watnot. If you know what i mean, it would be nice.
just dont want anyone to snag it or i'll go after them with an axe. HAHAHA ............jokes.
I'll get drunk and challenge them to a pub fight.
Anyhoons, that bit you wrote about brad pitt....how funny. Wierdly though, i think brad pitt would probably pull it off quite well if he wanted to.
I guess i'll ask permission to make the film closer to the time, like when my friend is out of film school for example, lol!

HI EVERYONE,
I love the idea of your film and the idea of it being done Independently (those type of films almost always are the best movies, especiailly documentarys...sorry films on people).
My advice is don't make it in to an E True Holloywood story with all the sensationalism, and bullshit. It seems some people like that kind of garbage. Make it as authentic as you possibly can (with mood, viuals, etc), and trully represent him for the person he was ( a guy who may have had drug problems, but was looking to change his life after the birth of Nico, and was a good human being who had flaws)
I remember Rogers had a great quote when he said Shannon was like an open wound - (I wish I could find where that quote is from). Make the film as if your celebrating his life and not centering it on substance abuse or anything that destroys what he truly was. He had one moment where he chose to revert his old ways of living life and it cost him -(we all make mistakes they don't cost us our life). This wasn't Kurt Cobain who towards the end was openly suicidal. If anything Shannon was a battler he fought through adversity - (show his strength in character, and all of that, and do not forget to show what his music meant to the fans through events such as the "Vigil"; just the Vigil in itself shows what he meant to the fans.
I hope you like some or all these ideas By for Now

Hey! yeah i hear ya! Thats the stuff me and nick were talking about we want to be true to him (who shannon was) and nicks good with the camera and im a big fan of shannon so togther we can make something abit brilliant i think And yeah that quote about shannon that rogers said is on the extras of the letters dvd, im making my friend nick borrow all my BM cds and dvds to use as research and inspiration. We agreed we want to do this film independantly and i personally said to him that if he tries to make the film either without me, or he tries to make it a sellout i'll go after him with a chair. HAHA
Hes cool with it all too though, theres plenty of time for making crap hollywood sellouts just for money.
Just not with this film!!!!

I know it's not a documentary, but what if you ended the film with REAL images from the vigil.. (we all know Nel doesnt allow video cameras at the vigil, but I have a feeling she'd make an exeption in this case) and maybe Nel telling some Shannon stories surrounded by melons like always does at the vigils.. That would be a cool end I think. Good luck Bums, if you end up doing this I know it'll be good.. Weird, Im sure, but very good. heheheh

Hey Bumcakes, see if you can get one of those cameras that Shannon did all his home movies with... My sister says it is called a fish-eye lense cameras (she is a photographer)... That would be so cool and true too!!!
And one more thing, when you eventually get filming, could you do me a favour... Please dont cast a pom as Shannon... Poms are awful at American accents... With the exception Hugh Laurie (House, Blackadder)!!!

Nah, we dont use the word pom as a payout, just a name to call you guys... Just like Yanks for Americans or Canadians for Canadians...lol... Isnt being known as Poms better than being called English? I imagine it would be... Just like how we are sometimes called convicts... And poofters is our term for homosexuals... But i dont usually join the two... The word Pom on its own just implies it... lol... Just kidding... Woops, we are getting a little off topic...

Definately foreverlights, I just read in your experiences thread that you was daydreaming about having a premier in your cinema when youo have a mansion, you so should im thinking when ive made the film (hopefully by that time me and my friend nick wont be so poor, even if we are, we're making the film anyway, nick might have to release a crap hollywood film to get us the money for this one! hahahahahahaha) anyway point is i think bringing the film out to small screen premiers would be good. And im sure it would bring alot of melonheads together, and make new ones i guess haha oh and theres the whole not having enough money to put it on a big screen anyway! haha
