not sure where i should put this... but thought i'd share it. A few weeks ago, i saw a routine on So You Think You can Dance and the song was Christina Perri - Jar of Hearts. I was interested in it, and checked out her Youtube videos, mostly covers on either guitar or piano. Unsigned Artist. Since that routine/Episode of SYTYCD, her single on ITUNES has blown into like the top 10 or 20. So.. last night they had her on performing the song on Piano. (no video yet, sorry). today, she did some interviews and thats what brings me HERE: music-mix.ew.com/2010/07/15/christina-perri-jar-of-hearts-qa/in the middle of the Entertainment Weekly interview: I read something in one of your bios that you learned to play guitar by watching old Shannon Hoon videos.I did! That’s the most random thing. Not a lot of people whip out the Blind Melon.I can’t make it up! It really happened. I don’t know if you remember mixed VHS tapes. I had a VHS tape of all his live performances that I got a record store. And I was a little hippie back in the day, and I loved Blind Melon. I would watch those videos of him playing live, and pause it, and look where his fingers were, and then I would pick up my guitar and learn that way.pretty cool shoutout. Link to a youtube video is at the bottom of the interview... or you can just click below. Song on Youtube: UPDATE: she did a CBS EARLY SHOW Saturday Second Cup Cafe Interview also and at the very end... she mentions learning to play by watching Blind Melon Video's

howdy Old friends!! so, this past week i picked up the latest editionof Guitar Player (September 2010)... because it was 20 Years Gone- SRV in his own words... and a Steve Miller Feature. Didn't buy it for the Brian Selzter feature, yeah... pretty sure it's Seltzer .... ANYHOONS>>>>> lookie lookie, in the mag... there was Christopher Thorn bit... pg. 26 under RIFFS section. Blind Melon's Christopher Thorn on the Healing Power of Music: (Christopher gives a tour of the studio at Clarity Way) "My sister & her husband asked me if i Thought it would be a good idea to add a studio to their new rehab facility, Clairity Way", says Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn. " I thought it was a fantastic idea & offered my help in the design and gear purchases. I've had a lot of friends go to reab, and their one complaint was they couldn't work on music during the trying time of getting sober. A singer I know spent some time at Clairity Way and it was inspiring to hear the songs he wrote during his stay there. I could tell that his true creative self was reappearing.: www. clarityway.com just when you thought the guys couldn't be any cooler, they keep blowing you away!

oh, i think that is fantastic idea about a studio in a rehab. i used to work at a rehab and these folks need a new outlet once they decide to put down the drugs and/or alcohol and or behaviors. when they enter the rehab, its because of one reason or another that they are having to give up the things that helped them escape pain/reality. for musical, artistic people i would think that this is the perfect way to express all of those built up issues and emotions all while creating something beautiful to show for it. way to go christopher! thats a very great way to give back!
