And even though a song like "New Life" was very personal to Shannon. The subject is still something that a many new fathers can relate to. good point. i never looked at it that way. they have to do time, but half the fun of that song in the bootlegs is when shannon improvs shit and goes wild. i don't think they should do no rain. that's the last song i would want to hear if i saw them live. and i don't know about soup...or walk...or maybe even change...but change has such a good vibe to it i guess they should play it.

I think they should play Soul One because I thought that was Brad's song...am I wrong about that? I heard it was Brad's song too. And a few days ago I realised it's the only Blind Melon love song. Personally I'd love to hear Glitch in a live situation...I think it would be really intense...maybe a good way to start the show with all the lights low. That song can raise some serious energy. Aww, yeah that would be AWESOME!!!!! Did they ever play it live?

I couldn't agree with you more. I've said it before, and I say it again. I don't think any of them are "hands off." Those boys were very adamant about stating that, they wrote their songs as "Blind Melon as a band." And the band is back together. Now my second point is. I never knew Shannon, never met him, but as an artist, I would like to think that he'd be very happy about the fact that his songs/words are being put out there again. I can't imagine, if he knew the band was getting back together, and they were going to perform Blind Melon songs, he'd be anything less than happy about it. Also, like I said before, even though Shannon may have written the words to a very personal song like "New Life." It can still be relevant today. That goes for all their songs.

Soulone - Brad wrote the words. Rogers wrote the music. Thanks for verifying that Matt!

I agree linwood...if Shannon wanted to keep his lyrics to himself he wouldn't have been in a band that had a major recording deal and toured the world. He wanted his words to be heard...plus he didn't have any problem singing other people's songs so I doubt he would have a problem with someone else singing his songs...especially since they are going to be sung in the right context....with the other people who wrote the songs.

I do't recall any live versions of sleepyhouse either. The Wetlands '93 show has a live version of Sleepyhouse. After listening to it, I think you'll agree that Sleepyhouse is one of those songs that are made for the studio but hard to do live. I actually really like that live version of Sleepyhouse. Maybe because it's so rare. Definately not as polished as the studio version obviously. And perhaps a little slow for a live show, but Shannon sort of addresses that when he has that great bit right after that song when he calls out that guy in the crowd. "I enjoy every bit of energy that you people have, but for instance you...are really pissing alot of people off because you are doing sensless things...and, and, and...alot of people are here to groove and, and,....I believe that when a song has a mellow vibe to it, than maybe you ought to attach to it, and abide by it, and enjoy it mentally for a change rather than physically." By the way, he says that right before the go into "Smile a Mile Wide". Is that a cover? Was it ever performed anywhere else?

To me Shannon's vocals don't really seem up to par on that version. I don't know of any other place Smile a Mile Wide was performed, but I don't think it is a cover. As far as I can tell it seems like complete improv.

I don't know if I heard Smile a Mile Wide elsewhere. I agree with Chris, it sounds quite like an improvisation. I just checked Charle's site and Smile A Mile Wide isn't in the lyrics section on his page so I'm guessing that it's because it was never recorded, just an impro on Wetlands show.
