I just tivo'd Blind Melon Live at the Metro on VH1 Classic. It's super-duper to see "the man" recognoizing the bestest band ever, and putting them on the tube. But VH1 Classic, ARGGGGGG!!!!! Classic!! What's next? The oldies station? Maybe retro? I'm gettin old. Here's a question for all you trivia buff's. Has any band in the history of recorded music, hit the top of their game, only to loose their singer, broken up, only to reform more than a decade later?

The Grateful Dead comes to mind. I don't know if it was a decade but it was around that. People still dig The Dead but I think they are on a hiatus right now. Those guys can't seem to get along. They play Jerry's tunes and kind of have a rotating cast of singers taking Jerry's spot like Warren Haynes and even Joan Osborne.
The Doors attempted it recently and did a tour, I didn't really follow how it went. Jim Morrison is a hard act to follow...
What about Lynyrd Skynyrd? They still tour incredibly successfully.
I'm sure I'll think of more.

Those are good examples, Sonya. Another one that came to mind is AC-DC. They didn't have a 10-year hiatus, but they kept on rockin' after Bonn Scott died! #rock#

The Allman Brothers could fit the bill too. They lost Duane Allman (guitarist) and Gregg Allman (singer) didn't die, but he quit the band and later came back. They have a big history of death and breakups but they're back together now and tour very successfully.

You guys are good. Yes, The Doors toured with Ian Astbury, formerly of The Cult, under the name Doors '2000, or something like that. For some reason John Densmore, their original drummer wasn't with them. He later sued to get them to stop using the name "The Doors" and He won. so who knows what their doing now. Lynyrd Skynyrd grabbed Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie's brother to sing for them, they've been together awhile. I almost forgot Aliced In Chains, they just recently reunited. I know it has'nt been ten years since Layne Staley died, but I know it's been awhile since they played together.

I had heard AIC was reuniting. I am a huge fan of their first two albums. I'm proud to say that I got to meet Layne way back in the day and he was very softpoken and laidback (probably smacked out but I was 14 so what did I know???). I'll have to see if I can download one of their new shows. Layne's shoes are like Shannon's...hard to fill.

Speaking of downloading, Chris Cornell just did an acoustic show for a Radio Broadcast in Stockholm... He played some solo stuff, Soundgarden stuff, Temple of the Dog...etc... It took place this month and is already in circulation....The Bit Torrent for that show is here: www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=112182

Thanks Matt! I'll download it. I'd especially love to hear the Temple Of The Dog songs. We just bought a 160G external hard drive yesterday so we can continue to download new shows without having to delete any old shows. We already filled up 140G on our pc and 90G of it is music. This way we can save shows it the highest quality format possible. It's a sick sick addiction.

Matt, I just tried to "create an account" So I could check out that Chris Cornell gig. It told me that there were already 100,000 users and couldn't accept any more. Needless to say, I was bummed. I'm a big fan of his solo stuff, and a huge fan of Temple of the Dog, so i'd like to see it. Any ideas?

Man, it's hard keeping up with all the news. The only thing with Ian Astbury fronting The Doors is that in my eyes he has a striking resemblance to Jim Morrison, I can't really explain what it does to me to see him perform . As to some of the other bands mentioned they had family in the band and that kind of puts a different spin on things. I'll have to find the AIC material that's around. I really liked Layne Staley and was heartbroken he died the way he did. It will be interesting to hear them. Now back to my bug problem .
