I've heard that BM was dropping that argument for the rights to blindmelon.com. Can anyone confirm this? I signed the petition but I was just thinking about it and does it really matter that much what the name of the website is as long as it's BM related? I'd just like to see a band-run BM website and I really don't see why it HAS to have that name. Any others feel this way?

Yeah I know but it could be something else related to Blind Melon not JUST blindmelon.com. Could be Melonhead.com, melonhoon.com I mean those are just examples but it doesn't hafta be blindmelon.com.

I agree with both of you. Personally I would like to see the band proceed and use an alternate url/domain name to create the site. If the regular domain name becomes available at some point, then it is very easy to funnel two urls to the same website.
There are many businesses that run into this problem where someone has already purchased their company's name as a url, and they can't use it or can't afford it. Those companies always find a way around that. I don't think this domain name issue is a legitimate reason to stop the creation of an official Blind Melon website. Of course, that's my opinion. . .

yeah i wish they'd just make a site, the guy isn't gonna give his domain up so just use something else. we can't wait forever. maybe a really long time, but not forever.  but what was the deal with that last site? like there's people who come on here talking about the "old forum." i think i remember hearing something about an argument on the last one or something......anybody wanna inform? |

I'll give you my story: around October 2004 i looked up blindmelon.com, and signed up to the board. It was an invision forum. So that's were I was with everyone else till something went wrong with the sever in like January '05 and they went back to the "black board" which was just a guestbook that everyone used. Gelfing and I and others found it slightly annoying.. 'cause if you were gone for a day you'd miss a whole lot.. so Gelf set this up.. and that in short is my saga of BlindMelon.com

The Petition gets signatures to this day, but it was started months ago, the owner of www.blindmelon.com refuses to let the domain go. I think he is a jerk. I would really love to see an official website too! |

I'm glad they are actively fighting for the domain. There is really no sense in why they shouldn't be able to use it. I'm sure they have good lawyers working on it for them.

But you have to think of new fans. What is the first thing a new fan would do when looking for Melon stuff? Type in, www.blindmelon.com ... When I want to shop for stuff online (ie Best Buy) I type in www.bestbuy.com ... If that site was already taken by some low budget dollar store and not the actual "Best Buy" store, then I would be forced to have to search for Best Buy's site. Know what I mean, vern? |

This is the first Blind Melon site I ever found. It was about 10 years ago and it looked just like today! This site kind of made me stop searching for other BM sites (of course it wasn't not OLNY beacuse of that), it said "official" indeed and it was so non-active that I thought ok, so they're really kind of forgotten. |
