Hey all...I just got word from Nel that the singer from the band "Stiletto" who played at Vigilstock in 2006 has made the 2nd California cut on AI. I left the club before she came on but heard nothing but raves the next day from friends who saw her band. She is from a town near Lafayette and an article is being written about her in their local paper. Someone is interviewing Nel tonight about her. She has white blond hair that is black only at the top and is the only rocker chick on the show. If anyone remembers her or watches AI please post here and tell us what you thought/think of her.

I caught a glimpse of that particular chick on the show, i usually dont watch, but i thought she was cool, but why waste your time, and soil your name by going on that show... She is a bit like Janis, but has a bit less control over her big voice... if she settled down the rawness, which im sure she will she will be more janis-like...
There was an Australian Idol kid who came runner-up over here who was 16 when he went on the show last year... anyways he is really talented both as a singer and musician, and the best, and hugely popular, indie rock station here Triple J interviewed him at an awards show, where he said "i have always wanted to be played on your station, becuase it is the only one decent enough to listen to", and the interviewer replied "mate, youll never be played on our station, you are a kid from Idol"... and you could just see his heart sink... and i think he deserved it too... he could have made it on his own given a couple of years, but now he will be stuck with that Idol tag for the rest of his life, and will never be looked at seriously as a musician... because down here Idol contestants are looked down upon and hated by everybody bar teenage girls and record execs who want the money...
anyways that is a bit off topic...

Foreverlights nailed it with his discription of her. I liked her, but I would have to see more from her. It will make all the difference what songs she chooses, but so far she has made smart choices for her voice. Although, I do like some of the Idol people. I like Daughtry and Carrie Underwood, but I get the label and they will forever be linked with Idol.

It may be a bit off topic but not untrue. I think Idol is the same in all the countries as in they are pop and Idol tagged forever but also think Carrie Underwood is not typical of this. Her Idol status has never kept her from country radio and pop. She may be the one of the only to get out from under that stigma.

She does have some pipes though, lots of power behind her vocals.

I don't know Amanda, but I knew she was going to be on AI and make it to Hollywood (and now beyond) because she is a cousin of one of my friends'. When they were showing her backstory, they showed her riding her motorcycle through my town! That was pretty exciting...I live in a town of 1,513 people....probably the only time we'll ever have a spot on national television! I am five to ten mintues from Mulberry, which is right down the road from Dayton, probably five minutes...... I think she's good but for this show will have to have something else stylewise, they give you certain artists to sing and that style won't work for everything. Good Luck Amanda!

I saw her in the auditions and thought she was good but when she sang The Doors I became a fan. I think it's really hard for musicians to get signed to major deals like American Idol offers, even though you are permanently tagged with the show. Most of the people on the show would never even be seen if it were not for the show. But, you are bound to the show and I think American Idol has become a new way of selling out in the opinion of many musicians.

Gabby...that's her and yes, the drummer is from Styff Kytten. I've never seen her before but I know by Nel's description it was the right girl. Thanks babe! Looking at her I can see why she might have chosen AI because she has the look they're after, that edge. I still think to this day that Kelly Clarkson sang a damn fine JJ as well in season 1.

Kelly Clarkson did a hell of a job with JJ in season 1!! I hope Amanda can keep it going.
